Rant ?

I dont think what im going to say really fits into a topic, but if it does. Someone tell me!

I guess this is really just a little rant. I just started making my own patterns recently. Ive made 2 and have been really excited about it. I had already posted tester calls for them earlier this week. The first pattern was good & I appreciate my testers! But now, on to the 2nd pattern. I created a groupchat for 5 of my testers & im stressed out really. Theres like no communication whats so ever in there. Im all about having people test for me, and im proud about it. I just hate theres no communication. And I aleady said please talk in there or ill remove them. But if i remove them, I dont have any testers for the pattern. Ughhh:pleading_face: Ive tried picking people who have karma, so I wouldnt feel this way like im ghosted! But I also picked a few without karma to give them a chance to build it up. Im trying to be patient with them, but due date is tomorrow. I asked how they all are doing, and still no word. I know this situation happens sometimes, dont come for me. I just dont understand it. Its rude & inconsiderate. Why apply if youre not gonna communicate or finish the project. If youre to busy just say that & id understand, im flexible:woman_facepalming: What do I do?? Just remove them all & forget about it? Its already hard enough wondering if anyone is even gonna like your pattern enough to apply when you post the call.

Thanks to everyone who reads. Have a lovely day :heartbeat:

I guess to avoid people who apply to be testers just to get a free pattern, you can post some requirements for your tester call. For example, must keep an updated journal. During my last pattern test, I “hid” half of the pattern. But yeah, it definitely is a little sad to be ghosted. If you can’t complete on time, I don’t mind, but try to send a message to let me know!

Communication is key, if my testers dont reply or are ‘inactive’ most of the time if not entirely. I just send them a private message, asking how their progress is if they need more time. Most of not everyone will get back to me, and some might not. I do add that if they need more time let me know and we can figure something out. I’m active a lot, so its ‘unusual’ if I’m not active for a few days. And if I’m not going to be active I let them know and for how long. Enough about me. I just dont know why people dont communicate or apply for a tester call if they arent going to do it or be active at all. Its annoying, and kind of rude.

That’s really frustrating, I’m sorry Amber :yellow_heart::yellow_heart: I don’t have any advice but it’s really unfair of them and I wish they’d just do what they agreed to

Yes exactly! & I posted requirements and even mentioned it in the chat! And still nothing. Maybe next time I will do that half hidden. That way if theyre actually gonna work on it, theyll be half done I assume

What do you do with the ones who dont get back with you ?

Give them the pattern in 2-3 parts. If they don’t get back to you for the first part then remove them. Some people are not nice, unfortunately.

I just remove them if they don’t reply to the group or my private message LOL. I don’t know if the “last seen” is super accurate but sometimes it’s been 5 days and they’re active everyday so :woman_shrugging:t2:

Can we give them the pattern in parts individually? Or only for all testers as a whole?

I’ve had this happen to me and it is super stressful, so I fully agree with you on this. The only thing you can do is to remove them, so they do not keep the pattern. As for trying to find more testers you can’t know for certain if they are going to finish on time especially when it’s a blank profile. I post all my tester calls on Instagram with the crochet community over there as I can see work, they do. Some do test for Ribblr if you find them there. As for finding them on Ribblr it really does feel like a toss-up on whether or not they will finish. When I had my original tester call for my free pattern release 5 out of 10 testers actually finished the pattern and gave me feedback.

I guess you would have to do that blocking thing! Where you hide it part of the pattern

Yes youre right! I agree fully & I held the tester call on Instagram and no one applied

I will remove them, as this is ridiculous. Thanks for replying!

Give parts to all testers and see who can actively give notes :spiral_notepad:.

Yeah unfortunately there are people who will ghost you for whatever reason, although I have no idea why :pensive: my best thought would be to block the entire pattern and have them either take a picture of their materials to show they’re going to at least be active in the message either in the journal or the actual tester group chat and give them some time to do this as not everyone will have the same time zone, at the moment I don’t think there’s a way to block for certain testers so if someone finishes prety fast they’ll have to wait until others reach them, which depending on the others could take a long time, theoretically you could make copies of that pattern and assign one tester to each pattern copy that way you can block individually and unblock when needed as per the speed of the tester but I have no idea if this works and having journal probably won’t work as I don’t think you’ll be able to share journals across patterns, so perhaps having them document their progress with photos in the group chat and after the finished testers who completed the test you can make sure to assign them to the official test pattern that will be published, have them create a journal with the final picture if you want and then gift and remove them, although this is all theoretical and I have no idea if that works

If they show no response even after so long its best to remove them and keep track of who they are so you don’t accidentally accept them again, I know designers do this for both testers they won’t work with again and for testers they like, sorry you had to go through that it’s definitely not nice of them, perhaps message them individually or chat them individually saying they will be removed if they don’t respond, perhaps for whatever reason they didn’t get the group message/in their settings not to get notifications for messages?

Yes of course. Thank you so much for the feedback. I will definitely think about doing the suggestions on my next pattern test!

I just remove them as a tester and dont gift them the pattern. They didnt participate, they dont get the pattern

Yess! There have been so many times where testers just aborted and didn’t let me know or tell me why. It’s so frustrating
