Say hello to Sierra @NovaRaineCrochet - our new Ribblr of the Week and designer behind NovaRaine Crochet! ![]()
Tell us a little about yourself:
Hi, I’m Sierra! I am a neurospicy mom of 2 adorable girls(2&4) who are the light of my life and my inspiration for designing. Crocheting and taking care of my family take up most of my time but in my spare time, I am a Twitch streamer where I mostly play horror games! I also have an adorable cat named Totoro and adore anime and kdramas :) oh and it is my husband’s birthday today!
When did you start crafting and how?
I started crocheting when I was about 8 years old. My mom taught me the basics and then how to make a granny square. I made blankets for my American Girl dolls lol.
And how did you start designing?
I started designing right after I had my oldest. I wanted to create fun, tactile, and baby safe plushies for my daughter and came up with my Prism Pals collection. The Prism Pal Pig was my first ever design!
Do you have a favorite craft type and if so - why?:
Crochet is definitely my favorite! Probably because it was something no one around me was doing when I first started and I felt special. Now I just love creating plushies and clothing with a side of wall-art!
What was the most memorable project you worked on?
This one is tough. I could say my most memorable project is the African flower stegosaurus that was 2 feet long and took 3 weeks to complete or The Sandra Skirt because I made it in honor of my grandmother who passed. If she didn’t teach my mom how to crochet, I may not be where I am today :)
What are you currently working on? Be honest - how many WIP do you have right now?
I am currently working on a spiraling mushroom pattern and have just released my fire koi kaiju plushie today! I definitely have over 10 WIPs though
What inspires you to create/design?
My daughters are definitely my inspiration. I love making things for them and seeing their faces light up. My oldest tries to steal all of my work even before I finish.
Which of your makes/designs are you most proud of? Share a picture!
I think I am most proud of my Wisteria Jellyfish! I haven’t seen anything like it and it definitely takes a lot of technique and skill to create!
What is your usual process of designing?:
Normally I just get a random spark of inspiration, pick up a hook and start working, writing down what I do as I go. Sometimes it is as simple as finding a stitch that I want to try and decide I’m going to make it into a piece of clothing. I also will just get a random idea and sketch it out (terribly).
Any favorite song, book or movie you would like to recommend?:
I think everyone needs to see The Princess Bride, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Galaxy Quest, and Spaceballs. The classics lol
What is your favorite feature on Ribblr?
I know it is simple but I love being able to mark off the rows as I go. I used to have a notebook with tick marks all over it and would need a pen/paper near me. Not great when you have a toddler who likes to draw on walls lol
What socials can folks find you on?
You can find me on Facebook (NovaRaine Crochet), Instagram (@novaraine.crochet), and Twitch (Mother_Mo92)!
Which 3 - 5 designers/patterns on Ribblr are your favorite?
I really want to shoutout some great designers that don’t get mentioned enough! @laurascraftedcollectibles @DreamWeave @littlegreenbear @JeffRatlis
Thanks for being here this week Sierra, it was a pleasure to read about you!
