i think you should be able to see your follower count in your summery

You can! If you click your pfp in the top right where you normally get notifications, look at the bottom and click the little person, hit summary, and scroll to the top and press expand you can see more stats including your follower count.
An easier way to access this would be to click your profile where it appears next to your post, and your follower count will be in tiny lettering near the middle.
