Selling

Hello I was wondering if you’re allowed to use a pattern from here and sell the finished project on a different website like Etsy as long as they are credited?

i believe you would have to ask the designer of the pattern how they feel about it. you can sell makes of patterns here on ribblr too though!

It is absolutely allowed, but you may want to link the pattern in the description.

It will usually say one way or the other in the pattern. Some designers dont like it because they’re also doing that and you become their competitor, some (like me) are absolutely fine with it especially if there’s a link back to the pattern. I dont sell my finished items because my daughter nabs them so if people want to buy a pattern from me and set up shop, then the more the merrier :joy:

Okay cool! Was planning on linking the pattern and putting their username as credit for the design unless the pattern states not to use it

People expect you to make and sell the pattern, if they don’t want you to sell it that is silly. What’s the point really?
Yes linking it and giving credit is great!

Believe it or not, there are designers out there that forbid making and selling finished product… I have several patterns like that that I actually have a binder titled… “one time use”…
But always ask the designer first if you are able and always check the pattern for they yes or no answer…

That is REALLY weird, what is the point? Why do they care? And how do they know…

I feel like if they cared they would have disclosed it in the pattern like I’ve seen with some of the patterns I get

Yup it should be totally fine! Especially if you put the link to the pattern or something in the description ! For example if you bought my frog pattern offf my Etsy and then started selling the finished product or even a pattern from my ribblr I would actually be really happy that you linked the pattern or even just put my shop link or tag because that is going to help me get more sales!

I will for sure add both shop link and pattern link then along with the users tag

Tbh I don’t think they can know :joy::sweat_smile:! And I totally agree with you, it doesn’t really make that much sense, if you are going to sell the finished product maybe don’t put the pattern for sale :woman_shrugging:!

You don’t necessarily have to but it’s really easy for you to do and it does them I big favor!

But that’s just my opinion

Some designers actually will search the net to see if Thier patterns’ finished product is being sold…then they will try and sue you for going against Thier “rules”… Just be kind and ask permission if it’s not stated at the beginning or end of the pattern…

Pretty sure legally they only have copyright to the actual pattern and not the item you make from it but I’m not too sure

it will also depend too what country since some countries do allow the copyright for both pattern and non- sellable finished items (personal use only)
