so does smart sizing mean putting the size of the project you made and the size(s) that you also want it to be available in and the smart sizing “makes” a pattern for the bigger/smaller sizes you added?

That’s right.
For example, if you add all the sizes available in your pattern like so:
S (M, L, XL)
You can then simply write in the instructions something like:
ch 2 (3, 4, 5)
A crafter choosing size XL will only see:
ch 5
