i just started this and i wanna make a pattern, this is all i have done. its going to be a cute little tank top but i haven’t made a pattern for my free hands before that i’ve actually finished because i feel like they’re difficult to understand. so does anyone have any suggestions for me that could make my patterns easy to follow? and if anyone would like to test it when i do complete the pattern please let me know somehow… i actually have never even posted on here so idk how it works honestly so i’m sorry this is super rambly
also since i already started would it be confusing for the first couple pictures to be a little bit of progress i’ve already made or would it be better to just start from the beginning to get pictures of each step
Youve got this my friend! Its so going to be adorable. Simply write down what you did then look through formatting for others patterns then rewrite the pattern as the formatting you found. Thats what i did with my very simple amigurumi
thank u sm i appreciate u🩷
Congrats on your first post and welcome to Ribblr! When writing patterns it’s up to what you feel is right, but I personally write down what I do after I do them, if I crochet a row of sc, I write it down like step 8: sc across and so forth
As for photos, its best for the photos to relate to the step you’re putting the photo on, so personally as long as it shows what needs to be done for that step it shouldn’t really matter what’s already been done before if that makes sense
Welcome and congrats on wanting to write a pattern! My first pattern was a raglan for kids and the best way i did it was write line for line how things went for that row or round. If your pattern has repeats thats even easier on your part!
I dont think you need to include photos unless something is complicated or super specific. The end/model photos is what gets people drawn into your pattern.
Good luck!
Congratulations on starting out with writing patterns and best of luck Once you are ready to put your pattern on Ribblr, the help center has some tips
You can do it! I am a crochet tech editor and I think progress pbotos are always helpful. Try to write it as though it will be the first pattern someone ever crochets. Include lots of details about your materials and check out Craft Yarn Council for some industry standards to follow. Testers will help for sure. If you can, have it tech edited before testing. If you have any questions or want my tech editor opinion about something (lol), feel free to message me!
great thank you so much!!!
I will definitely test your pattern for you if you want.
I never write pattern myself but based on the patterns that i read, it always a good idea to have a overall summary of the work flow (top down or bottom up, started with the front/back…etc) at the beginning. Lots of pictures are nice because honestly sometimes you might think it easy to understand but reader might have a different interpretation. Be uniform in your format and color code is great. Always have total of number of stitches at the end of each row unless it made to measure. Use single color yarn in the picture with contrast background and even use bigger yarn for demonstration if possible. You can draw on your pictures too.
These are just some that i think will make a good pattern. Hope it help
thank you this helps so much
