Stashbust September (and possibly through December?)

I’m glad you were able to jump on that one, then! ^.^

I’m not sure which wearable I’m going to tackle this week, but there are two of them sort of rattling around my brain!

The first is a Lamp (the band) album cover purse that would actually be a surprise gift for my sister who will be seeing them in concert at the end of September. The other one is a vintage crochet shawl that looked like it might be fun to try!

I am lowkey embarrassed by my yarn stash because it’s a little outta control, but in my defense my family’s go-to gift is yarn and whenever they hit up an estate/yard sale they always snag any yarn lots for me. Also, I accrued a significant portion of this yarn when COVID was at its peak and most of my shopping was done online. Because it was hard to discern color accuracy, I would end up buying multiple shades and thus would end up with more skeins than I actually needed.

ANYHOW, here it is:

Sorry it’s a mess in here

The moving bags are like…my height but not pictured in full. And there are boxes with some overflow. :face_with_peeking_eye:

My overarching goal is to tackle my stash, specifically colors I have a lot of (green, blue, purple) so they’re not busting out of my cubbies. I also want to use up my plush yarn which needs to be minimized and work with some of my beautiful hand dyed skeins instead of just letting them collect dust in the corner.

However, I’ve noticed I’m much better with these types of challenges if I have a group of accountabilibuddies to cheer on and who help motivate me with their own progress, so there’s definitely a community aspect to it for me, as well! I’m hoping I’ll be able to go the rest of the year without buying anything, unless for a commission, I already have a specific project in mind for it, or if it is a super special-to-me purchase.

I’m planning to use this as a pattern destash as well, as I’m guilty of getting hoards of patterns, but not actually making them

Finally decided on the perfect stashbuster wearable! Sort of… lol

Not sure what I’ll make with them yet, but it’s a good start!

I love your stash. I dream of having that much yarn and that many color choices. I completely understand how, during covid, you ended up with extra colors!

I aplaud your desire to not buy any more yarn this year. I don’t know about y’all, but for me there always seems to be at least one color that I don’t have. Then just entering a store means buying more than just that one color.

I have a bunch of old yarn that I need to use up, so hopefully I’ll be able to join in ! 🩷

I admit I am not ungrateful for the variety of yarn at my fingertips, haha, but just seeing the sheer volume was like woooah :face_with_peeking_eye: - my yarn was growing at a faster rate than I could crochet/knit and, quite literally, taking over the house. I think one of my goals and reasons for trying to not buy for the rest of the year is that I found I was buying yarn that I had no actual projects in mind for, which I generally think is fine, but once I organzied my stash and saw how much I was working with/already had at my disposal, it kind of hardened my resolve to only get those special skeins or as needed for specific projects.

And absolutely! I would do that all the time walking in looking for one specific yarn or color and walking out with 5(+5) others. I have even explained this phenomenon to my partner who is acquainted with my yarn problem solution when he said something like, "Well don’t you already have a yellow yarn? And I responded, “Yes, but it’s not the right yellow!” :joy: He is an artist, so I think he understands on some level, as I further explained it’s not like paint where I can just mix, tint, tone, or shade it to my desired color (unless I hand dye, but let’s not go there ). I’m proud of myself the last few trips to the craft store I haven’t bought a single skein. :smiling_face_with_tear:

Tell my why Stashbust September kicked off with amazing Labor Day sales, too, though- talk about temptation! :upside_down_face:

I completely forgot to check this thread so I’m a little late:sob:
I’ve actually started two wearables this week though.
A crocheted scrap maxi skirt and a knit dress!
I know I’m definitely adding pockets to the skirt, but I’m since I started knitting so recently I’m not sure I could pull it off with the dress lol

No worries, but how fortuitous you already had two such projects in progress!!

The colors of your wearables are so very pretty; pockets are a great idea! Your knitting stitches are so enviably tidy, too  - cannot wait to see how both of these eventually come out! (I believe in you re: knit pockets, but I also totally understand haha)
