When working around a chain, say I start with 6 when I go around does it add more stitches? Like does it increase on its own cause I’m chaining one right now and it’s giving me some trouble

depends, if you only do a sc in each stitch, you shouldn’t add more, unless on the edges you do 2 in one

The different sized stitches are useful for shaping the project, a garment or amigurumi for example

Yep! Slst is even shorter and is sometimes used to sew things together too!

Yes. There is even a quadruple treble, slightly taller than a regular treble (US). Edited to correct the stitch name. These are used in thread crochet
