Why is everyone making the exact same patterns i know you are going to say like thay aren’t exactly the same thay have different colors but for real it’s the same patterns like the bee and cow patterns for example and I really get mad that persons just steal a pattern that already exists like making free patterns to payd patterns
so please come up with new stuff and not copy stuff that already exists and stop applying to testing that already exists we need to stop this
Screen shot of Ribblr patterns that looks the same
They aren’t all the same. The contents of the pattern might be different. It’s not like one person can make a bee pattern and nobody else can. Sure it’s not good for people to copy but there is nothing we can do if the only proof we have is that they look alike. Not one person owns the idea to make a bee-
they aren’t all the same. if a bunch of people make bees, they are going to look similar because that’s how bees look. the contents might not be the same. it’s not like only one person can make a bee, otherwise everyone else is copying
I mean it is kind of upsetting, but the free patterns are still there, and most people use the free ones. I get where you are coming from, but sometimes the patterns are slightly different and harder to understand, while another may be a lot easier, still getting the same results.
I understand how annoying it gets to see people posting tester cases and patterns for simple bees or the same style cow. I’m in the same place. I just ignore it at this point since (to me) it tends to appear to be beginners with first patterns type thing. I do wish beginners and other people as well would stop reinventing the wheel and come up with a way to make their design stand out with things like this but it’s really just up to them. I don’t think these people are actively trying to copy though.
Those are all different patterns.
You can see the different stitch numbers and rows if you look closely.
Everyone makes bees and it’s a good place to start as a beginner so there’s gonna be a lot of patterns for them.
Same for the cows and all the other popular patterns.
Not everything has to be a super unique new idea
Bee patterns are classic, they aren’t exactly the same. There are so many designs out there, that it’s hard to make something that’s completely new and different. Same with cows!! They aren’t copies
I get that sometimes they all look the same! But sometimes u see a popular lets say cow pattern and u can’t find one EXACTLY how u want it so u decide to make your own pattern just the way u like it with the size and shape u want. And then ur like, well I put all this work into making the pattern, it doesn’t hurt to put out a tester call and publish it! And sometimes it’s just fun to make ur own pattern. Some people prefer making their own pattern and putting out for others :)) nothing wrong with it!
They aren’t the same pattern, a bee and cow are common things people ask me to make and that others make for markets because they’re cute. Different variations allows for more variety of the bees because not everyone is going to like the same pattern. The patterns are also different because of round numbers, stitch count, the wings are always different, and the shapes, there’s also the sizes, and they’re may be accessories. If you looked at each pattern that’s the ‘same’ they’d actually be different. They’re just similar they aren’t the ‘same’ pattern.
As someone who is just making their first pattern, this is what I’m scared of. I want to be different and make things that aren’t what you normally see. However, I feel like no matter what I try to make, I will be copying someone in some way. Where does that leave people who really want to make their own creations but have just gotten into the crochet world? What are you to do when it seems like everything has already been done?
It is worse when the patterns are of a trademark or copyright image and they don’t even try to hide it and it doesn’t occur to them that they need to get official permission from the actual trademark or copyright owner first and purchase an official license from them to do so
Such as hello kitty, Mickey Mouse, Pooh, Spider-Man, Mario, Harry Potter, Blues Clues, Barbie, Star Wars characters, Star Trek characters, lilo and stitch, the Grinch, any of Marvel Comics characters, and on and on
I think saying that ALL bee patterns are the same is extreme. I personally have designed a few bee patterns. It’s not copying, because as stated, there may be different contents. If someone designs a pattern of THEIR own, no matter how common it is, that’s ok. There are obviously going to be multiple variants of ANY pattern. A lot of patterns are popular, such as bees, and that’s why people decide to design them. Just because you make a bee pattern, doesn’t mean nobody can make the same thing. You cannot trademark that, only YOUR specific pattern. Also bees are super generic. That’s why they all look similar. They’re like Hershey’s kisses. They come in different flavors, but are basically the same thing all the time.
Disney has most of its work both copyrighted and trademarked and they are notorious for being very aggressive in defending their intellectual property.
In the crochet world just a couple years ago a designer came up with a free baby Yoda pattern. Disney now owns Star Wars
She pretty much immediately got a cease and desist letter from Disneys legal department. She had to rename her pattern and make some changes to its appearance before Disney agreed not to take her to court
sometimes stuff trends and it’s inevitable that people want to try their hand at it. you’d be surprised how many creators can look at an object, shrug, and know how to put their own twist on it without ever looking at a pattern.
with so many versions available, you can choose and learn how to make edits to your own to personal preference without ever worrying about whether it’s not yours or not. it’s hard to argue what’s wholly unique when presented with basic shapes and construction.
two finished objects can already look unalike by yarn choice, hook choice, and/or tension alone. that’s why fiber arts are so flexible! make what you want, support who you want, and carry on.
