right.
this is getting out of hand.
BEFORE I SAY WHAT I AM GOING TO, PLEASE KNOW I HAVE READ ALL THE COMMUNITY GUIDLINES AND AM JUST SHARING AN OPINION!
I know we are all different ages on here.
and that’s okay.
I know we all share different opinions.
and that’s okay.
but sometimes, i see comments saying teens don’t belong on here, and that they are taking over and should leave.
and that’s NOT okay.
maybe, that’s not what was intended to come across as, but I can assure you a lot of teens are misreading it from what I know and now don’t feel welcome.
Recently, I have considered leaving ribblr because of all the hate, calling teens ‘kids’, ‘attention seekers’, saying they are ‘trauma dumping’ and then ‘embarrassed to tell people about ribblr because of all the teens activity’ and also accusing them of not reading t and c’s or stealing other people’s patterns because they don’t care or don’t think anyone will notice they are breaking the rules.
Yet, I am so commited to my crochet business, I pay for market stalls, I have 1700+ shop followers, and stayed up PAST MIDNIGHT to finish safety testing my plushies, because, even if no one notices I am following the rules, I still did it!
Someone trauma dumps and instead of thinking ‘that person must be having a rough time’ you are complaining about it?
This is no longer having opinions, this is genuine fighting and arguing with children half or younger than an adults age!
Now, tell me:
If you were talking face to face, teenager to adult, is that really how you would talk to them? Yes, you might be trying to prove a point, but that doesn’t give you the right to be rude to eachother, teens and adults included.
Additionally, doesn’t it seem a bit irresponsible that the adults on ribblr, genuine mums or dads or grandparents or whatever, are telling off children for posting about wanting to know if they are a ribblr celebritiy? because that to me is more irresponsible than what the teens are doing.
This is when I started researching on ribblr to find out the other side of the argument, now mine is done.
the argument against this is that ribblr is a proffessional craft site, and there should not be any of the teen activity about trends and similar stuff to that.
First, I read through rez’s post on the trend. They have a very fair point as to why it could be annoying and I completely agree.
secondly, I read the comments on the post. these got out of hand. several times, I saw the same person trying to stop posting to people about it, yet the adults kept arguing. they said they would stop, and for 26 messages after, there were still people arguing with them when they clearly said they wanted to stop. THINK ABOUT WHAT THE TONE SOUNDS LIKE BEFORE YOU SEND IT! I have fallen out with several friends over text because I meant something but they misread it and now we don’t talk, so do you really want to start that over a crochet website?
thirdly, there were complaints that many adults don’t want to use ribblr anymore because the ‘kids’ are taking up the personal spaces, general and crochet spaces with the ‘trend’, yet when I looked through the search part for the word ‘trend’ I could not find any of them that weren’t in the teen crafters space. they were all there.
So what I am trying to say is:
We teens are not ‘kids’ or ‘trauma dumpers’ or ‘attention seekers’
we are humans who have the right to be on this website. To run a shop. To make a non crochet post in the personal space topic. To have an opinion. Do not tell us we can’t be here. We are still humans who have feelings and this hurts. It needs to stop. I can’t believe some don’t understand their tone is really hurting which is why I am trying to speak out.
I just want to add that because of this I have decided (sadly)
I AM leaving ribblr (except for the gc’s and the tests I am doing right now!) because I can’t cope with being told by people my parent’s and grandparent’s age that I don’t belong.
thanK you for readIng My post!
