I don’t know what/ if I am doing something wrong but I am getting charged a fortune in “STRIPE” fees. I love Ribblrs charges but Stripe are taking almost 13% of my earnings. Is this normal? Is there a way to change my payment type to something else? E.g PayPal?
Can anyone offer advice? Or if not just moan with me to make me feel better.
Stripe has different fees depending on the customer and where you are based.
Generally speaking, though, most payment service providers such as Stripe or PayPal charge a fee that consists a percentage and a fixed fee. This means for example if you charge $3 for your pattern, and they charge 3.5% + 30c then you will pay 40.5c for the payment processing, which effectively is like 13% of the gross income from that pattern. Does that make sense?
I do know Stripe increased their fees recently at least in Europe, though are overall more competitive vs PayPal.
Our team are looking for more ways to support designers whilst trying to decrease costs.
It’s a pretty complex flow and there’s a lot of costs involved in processing payments. We’ll get there, but realistically it’ll still take a bit of time.
Paypal charges more than that, just like @saar said. Unfortunately the only way to erase those fees would be to connect bank accounts directly but that would be unsafe for many reasons. I know that Etsy does that, but Etsy has so many different platform fees. Etsy charges for for the fees you are charged, even
PayPal allows you to get reduced fees though. You may have to have a business account? I know once mine had a certain amount of business per month they discounted all my fees.
Honestly when I first started I was only charging a dollar for my patterns, and I only made about thirty cents per pattern…Which is now why i charge slightly more. Unfortunately stripe is the only option, and believe it or not has the best rates for business accounts. It may be beneficial to charge a little more for your patterns to compensate that.
