I recommend paying attention to the lectures and if you see something being repeated, write it down because that usually means its important. Having highlighters and colored pens really help as well!

for notes:

instead of copying everything off the board/power point/whatever it is, write it down in a way you understand.

if the teacher has

‘microevolution is * blah blah big words *’ written on the board: just write something that summarizes whats written that you understand, like ‘microevolution is another form of evolution’.

i also tend to do:

psychology 9/8
-branches of psychology:
(indent) •structuralism, blah blah blah

also ask what’ll be on tests/quizzes. if they hint at anything being ona test write that shit down. also try to remember any questions from small quizzes youre given, those may be on the bigger exams.

for subjects that aren’t super technical (histories, stuff like that) you can make your notes silly!!! write them down in a way that you’ll remember ‘em. i like to treat it like a story because that’s basically what they are. assuming you aren’t being graded on them

when i have the motivation to study (very rare these days tbh) i like to copy down the headers from my notes on a separate document/paper and write down as much as i can remember under each one. then i compare it with my notes, spend some time on the stuff i missed, and repeat it ‘til i’m confident. takes a lot of energy but it keeps me engaged with the stuff while i do it. feynman technique is good too, especially for harder things

There’s a Cornell note taking method— I think it works pretty well

I am in a program called AVID, the class teaches us how to take notes. But you should try and find the way that works best for you, or the way that will help you retain the information better.

I do bullet points or dashes/triangles for new topics and arrows under them to continue what I writing about.

You can’t post links here, but the slideshow is on a website called slideplayer. (Search up avid note-taking slideshow and scroll down) I have seen it every year for the past 5 years lol! I hope this helps you!!! You got this <3
