teaching my little sister crochet!

hi everyone! I’m finally teaching crochet to my little sister!

shes using the wooble Pierre the penguin, but I’m here to help, and I’m really happy that shes joining the crochet journey. do y’all have any tips after the wooble on what I should teach her?

After woobles, I’d probably pick another easy beginner friendly pattern with basic stitches again so she can learn it by heart. Then I’d move to a little more complicated one with new stitches but still beginner obviously.

Sorry if that’s confusing lol or no help

After woobles, a beginner kit would be like maybe your nearest crafts stores brand kit, or you could try something easy on ribblr?

Sorry if this doesn’t make any sense :downcast_face_with_sweat:

A pocket frisbee is my go-to beginner pattern, especially when I’m teaching kids/teens. It’s a fun and easy way to practice the increase/decrease she’s learning already with the Woobles while expanding into a little bit bigger project. Here’s a free pattern similar to the one I usually use if you’re interested. I’m so excited you’re sharing the fun of crochet with your sister!

Woobles does also have slightly harder kits for after she finishes the beginner one if it works well then you could do a slightly harder one

After wobbles, I would do a simple project. Like another project that has a magic ring. So it can get through her head and she would know it by heart. Sorry if this doesn’t make sense.

I would maybe teach her a small plushie! The only normal tips that I have is crochet in both loops! I did not know that when I started

You should get her some cute yarn and crochet hooks

And for sure a beginner pattern

My gummy worm pattern should work

maybe afterwards she can learn bobble stitches. This pattern used bobble stitches and was really easy:

it’s from this shop which has a lot of beginner friendly patterns and a lot of youtube tutorials:

start with teaching basic stitches, and maybe progress to a small amigurumi ball. It was one of MY first projects my mother taught me to make, and it was such a bonding moment:heart::sparkles:

Have her try a beginner+ Wooble kit like Fred the Dino, Felix the Fox or Cornelius the Bee.

Cornelius has colour changes as he’s a bee and so does Felix.

Fred is a different shape. He does have a lot of sewing for the spikes!

Reese the Mallard is the same pattern as Pierre the penguin except Reese has colour changes and embroidery so this is a good option if you or your little sister doesn’t want to buy another kit (they are quite expensive!) but still wants to make a beginner+ Wooble. You can use Pierre’s pattern and estimate which rounds the colour changes are.

Personally, I started with Felix the fox only knowing how to ch, sc, and inc.

Color changes, Foundation chain, hdc & dc, and idk if this counts but maybe intermediate to advanced sewing.

I would probably give her some plush yarn so it is easier to work with <3

I recommend teaching her how to make a bee, so she learns basically everything you need to know about amigurumi <3
