The Difference Between Paid Patterns and Free Patterns

i should’ve said this in my last reply:

you are also totally free to just not answer the questions of whether the pattern is free or paid similar to what Nova does. that’s okay too.

my only intent in commenting here was to maybe help add some perspective as to why that question is so frequent on ribblr.

tbf i think testers should propose themselves because they want to help the creators and not because they want a paid pattern for free.

the fact a pattern will be a paid one or a free one shouldn’t be the reason to propose or not for a test.

and it should be a personal choice of creators to release a pattern for free or not. nobody should judge the choice. there are amazing patterns for free, as of not so good patterns that cost money

but, tbf, as a non creator, I find really annoying reading questions about the pattern being or not a free pattern at the release.

I took a look at your shop, and this isn’t about your skill. Your work looks great.

Ribblr is a lot like art commission servers on Discord or Telegram: it’s mostly makers, not buyers. That means a saturated market and a lot of users (including minors) who aren’t really in a position to purchase.

Because of that, sales usually come from promoting outside the platform and driving traffic in, and it takes more than a few Instagram posts. It takes quite a bit of leg work.

So don’t doubt your abilities. Obvi do what you want with your pricing, but don’t let that lack of sales make you think you’re a lesser fiber artist because you’re simply not. A lack of sales here isn’t a reflection of your talent. It’s the platform.
