Thinking about this makes me sad 😭

Don’t be scared. Time yourself, pay yourself for time and material. The right person who gets fibre arts will come. And not to be rude, if someone thinks it’s not worth it, then they are not worth your time and they can go make one. Sorry just being real.

There is no right or wrong. Pay yourself per hour, not less than minimum wage, then estimate your material cost. The way I see it nothing should cost less than 7$. Which means a keychain that takes less than 30 mins. That’s my opinion though and am still learning. And be confident about your price.

Loll that’s so true, gods forbid a small business make a good amount of money :upside_down_face: let’s spend all our money on luxury brands

I kid, people do whatever they want with their money but it’s kinda sad at the same time

Honestly I get alot of people who tell me how ā€œamazingā€ my work is and how I should be taking in the money. But it just comes off as shallow. I am sure they mean it as a confidence boost but I find worrying about how much I am charging turns a hobby I enjoy (and just happen to make a couple $$ off) into some insane business venture that stresses me out and sends me into a panic spiral. I do crochet to escape anxiety, not induce more of it. So while I come up with a fair price, I don’t worry about if I ā€œlet something go for cheapā€. Price will rise and fall with growth and self evaluation. Come to something you feel is fair and know someone enjoys something you made. Don’t beat yourself up because you didn’t charge the standard price X years ago

Yeah, I only think its a problem when you look at 2 near identical items, one made lovingly by a small business and one made by someone underpaid and sold by a billion dollar company, then people happily pay the designer brand but chat badly about the prices for the small business.
I do think people should be free to spend how they see fit without shaming but equally small business should be able to charge what they choose without the shaming.

Gods yes, I despise when people are underpaid and a product gets sold top $. That money should go to them at the very least a good percentage of it.

Very much agreed, I’d be happier for billion dollar companies releasing these if the majority of profits went to makers .
