To the pattern testers❗️

I’ve tested patterns where the creator doesn’t respond to any of the testers. I have also tested a pattern and days before the due date they released the pattern for sale and didn’t even fix or care about the feedback. That one all of the testers were upset because why have a pattern test if 3 days later you release the pattern without any feedback from your testers. Just wanted to let people know my experience with testing.

I’ve heard that some designers do get upset. Wasn’t really addressing your specific situation.

Some testers “might be” reluctant to bring errors to the designers attention due to not wanting them to be upset or mad. Thus some errors might go unreported for this reason

My point was that the whole idea behind testing is finding errors and fixing them, so testers need to be willing and able to communicate with the designer and the designer has to be able to handle having errors brought to their attention without getting upset about it

I’ve only tested a few patterns. Does anyone ever use the thumbs down, do not recommend rating option when there’s been a bad testing experience? That seems like a good way to get the designer’s attention! :flushed: Especially if accompanied by a journal explaining what happened.
I’ve seen others mention that some designers have abandoned tests, too!

I love that Ribblr doesn’t gatekeep, and anyone can add a pattern, but that means ANYONE can add a pattern, for better or worse. :anguished:

If someone won’t listen to you at all or it says it’s beginner friendly but uses very complicated descriptions and no photos which might help.
I would definitely use thumps down

I used the thumbs down :-1: once. It was a very crappy testing experience and the designers profile shortly after the testing period wasn’t able to be found like it had been deleted or something. So I deleted the pattern from my testing tab and journal

I think :-1: sounds very justified in both those scenarios! I would always want to do anything I could to avoid giving a thumbs down, but sometimes that’s just the way it is. I recently bought a product, handmade but not crochet, and was very disappointed with it. I let the maker know so they could try to improve their product. And a specifically said I wasn’t going to leave a bad review or ask for a refund. They did not want to hear my feedback and defended their poor workmanship instead. Sometimes the best thing you can do is cut your losses!

That’s the way I looked at it. It was better to cut my losses than argue with the designer.

I worked a pattern that the wording didn’t make sense. So I had to keep working stitches in different combinations in order to make it work out in the form to make the pattern work. I I sent the directions to the creator and added it to the journal. The pattern got posted without any other testers and I don’t see any changes to the pattern. So I’m not sure if it is actually changed to the public pattern.
