Trip = Blanket Project? (Updated Nov 13)

This is my blanket project topic! See the updates below :backhand_index_pointing_down:

1. Intro & sewing questions (Nov 4)

Not sure if any of u noticed, but I’m not really signing up for tester calls bc of this! I’m not going to be signing up for tester calls, again bc I’m going on vacation, but I will be active on Ribblr almost daily! (Don’t worry for ppl testing for me! This won’t affect u much!). But this is also an announcement for a big project! I love crocheting in the car, and this is a road trip is perfect! I’m finally going to use this yarn for smthn, and It’s going to be a blanket! Need ur help! (Wow this is a lot of exclamation points) I was thinking of a granny square blanket, and make Tetris shapes, and sewing them into a blanket like this:

So any suggestions for other things I can do? It needs to be modular (pieces to sew together) bc it’s easier to transport (edit: I’m making granny squares). Another thing, should I mix the texture yarn with any other?

2. Yarn spun, selected, and slst or sew? (Nov 6)

I leave Saturday morning, and I’m almost done preparing for the blanket. Here’s all the yarns I’m using, they are either weird texture, or colours I love.

And here’s the granny square pattern I’ve settled on! It’s just, well, a normal granny square.

May take some creative liberties with some different sized granny squares, or different types. Should I sew or crochet panels together?

I don’t really know, as I’m new to well, just granny squares in general. Any other tips? I may also continue to add yarns.

3. Granny squares made & more tmrw (Nov 13)

I’ve made them! 23 so far

I made about half of them on the road, and half of them whenever I had time. I’ve wet blocked about half of them, but I think I’m going to buy a cheap steamer and steam block them. Any suggestions? They’re all slightly different sizes due to the different textures. Leave tmrw, plan to make a lot in the car, as well as tonight.

Well I’m using the yarn from the og post, for sure. I don’t think it would mix with fluffy yarn well.

I think a scarf would look neat in that yarn .

Have you decided on what kind of stitch/(s) you want to incorporate into the project?

I don’t make clothes, mostly cuz I’m a guy.

Well, I think I’m going to use a semi solid granny square, so mainly dc.

What if you did a few rows of white acrylic yarn in between to make the colors pop a bit more?

I was thinking of doing like a, only weird/cool texture yarns. Maybe I’ll mix some in.

In that case, what about eyelash yarn?

What does semi stand for?

Can’t find any.

Means that it only has 4 holes per round

So a MR dc granny square cluster with only 1 cluster per side, or a MR square or whatever with only 4 rows around number of stitches varying?

Idk. I think I’ll find a cool granny square pattern online. They will be squares, that’s all I know.

The original Tetris idea (just a suggestion no pressure obviously) I think it would probably look better in hdc then dc but that’s just my opinion, and it mostly applies to if the granny square pattern you pick is solid, I also think lining the squares together with black, dark grey, or some mix of darker yarn close to black around the shape of the Tetris pieces would add to making the pieces look more like the game, and using different shades of black-dark grey (maybe dark brown) will ad definition to the Tetris shapes when you put it together.
