Unable to leave select mode

When I hold my finger on a message and then click “select” my chats become stuck like that because I can’t hit the cancel button.

Summary

The cancel button is too low to actually be clickable.
The only way to see it is to pull up my screen, and then I’m unable to click it.
The only other way I’ve found to leave select mode is to completely cancel out of the app, which can be quite annoying because I accidentally click the button often.

This issue is on my phone, but I’ve just realized that on my iPad there is no cancel button at all.
Hope this makes sense because I’m super tired haha
