Hey I want to make a piece from a vintage (70s) pattern book I thrifted and it says to use “No. 9 (4) knitting needles” Does anyone know what this would be in mm?
Sorry I wish I could help but i only just learned how to knit
I can help you, but I need to know 2 things first, what weight yarn does it call for and is the pattern in US (UK) or UK (US)?
I’m fairly certain that is telling you to use 4 US9 double point needles (circulars were not really a thing back then) US9 needles is 5.5 mm, but you really need to check that gauge that is only the recommended size they used
Awesome thanks! I just added a picture with more information to the main post and I’m pretty sure it’s US
Getting the gauge it calls for, you may end up using different size needles depending on how tight or loose you knit
that is UK(US) that call for US4 needles which is 3.5 or 3.75 mm (there is not an exact chart since it was old terms)
this is kind of what I do for fun… any more questions, let me know.
Thank you!
