What are your favorite cotton yarns?!

Im wanting to use other types of yarn and cotton has always been on the list. My first was Peaches and Cream. It was nice, but stiff to work with.
Im looking for something that will be more on the drapey side and instead of testing a million skeins myself i thought id try here. Any input is greatly appreciated.

That’s actually really tough, I’m struggling with this too

I have a commission coming up for a hand cover for a friend who was in an atv accident a few years back… cotton yarn was what we decided on for the pieces so she can wash and wear them again.

I hope this community is big enough to help me find one with more drape :heart_hands:t4::crossed_fingers:t5:

If you have a Hobby Lobby near you the I love This Cotton Yarn is pretty soft and comes in a good bit of colors.

Have you tried Lion Brand 24/7 cotton? Super high quality and doesnt split. It has a really good stitch definition (as in it doesnt look really fluffy and messy like acrylic yarn) and is a beautiful texture. Would highly recommend, espicially if you plan to gift it to someone who wants to wash it.

I agree with the hobby lobby I love this cotton and the lion brand 24 7. I think the I love this cotton is softer. I made my dress out of 24 7. Only because that’s what I had enough skeins of one color.

Thank you to anyone who has given advice.. so much money is being saved by getting opinions from others first!

Hopefully we see a post from me in the future with an update on the custom hand cover.

I cant wait to try these yarns as ivw never used any of them, the lion brand really excited me as i have used a few chunky skeins of theirs in the past and loved the work.

I was just thinking about one of my favorite tops I made myself. I used a DK weight cotton yarn instead of a 4 weight. Drape was amazing.
You wouldn’t need that on a hand cover but wanted to let you know, just in case.

I honestly have only used a handful of DK or even sport weight yarns… it didnt cross my mind to change the weight of the yarn as well but something with a finer yarn may be easier on them.

The person im doing a custom cover for has a very large skin graft and a portion of the hand is missing. The grafted area is prone to bruising, scrapes cuts etc and can make daily duties a hassle at times, so we were looking for something that i can make multiple of, easy on and off, and last but not least washable.

Editing to add: i am going to make a pattern for this because i doubt there is one marketed. But if any of you knows of one out there, please send it my way!! :two_hearts:

As a medical professional who has worked with severe burns- if you end up getting a yarn and you are not sure, have her drape/ wrap it around the area for a little bit and see how it feels on the area with movement- sometimes things feel ok, but after a little bit can start to irritate. I do know that my sister has made several garments out of the milk cotton and loves how soft it is and washable/ holds up.
Also, try looking at fingerless glove patterns to help with design. Good luck
