Hello!
Allow me to share! I’m a knitter just turned crochet lover. My favorite project is my first one which I just completed 2 months ago. The colors and pattern do not fit the recipient in the least but I wanted her to remember that cold day, just a few weeks ago in Mount Dora, Florida. She can’t remember her only Daughter’s name at this point, but I wanted her to remember the cozy striped blue scarf on that cold day and everyday that she is depressed and scared.
Yes, I hope my first project brings something to my Mom. I love her more than all the soft balls of blue yarn on this earth. I want her to write her name, laugh, tell the officer her address, touch my hand when she “talks” to me, and I want her to wrap herself up in the softness and warmth that I crocheted into that scarf.
I’m crying while writing this to all the knitters and crocheters out there. My Mom, like many Mom’s lives in a world of confusion, humility, and scary senseless dreams among other things. Alzheimer’s. I am far away but what I CAN do is get some major stress relief by grabbing some soft yarn and making something personal for a loved one. I was a Paramedic so many years ago and I always had my knitting bag with me on that rig.
Wendy here… WELL, the picture was uploaded. If you want to read what I put down, you need to touch the sentences above the pictures and swipe left. What a mess, missing so much.
My favorite (comepleted) was a puff sleeve teal sweater I just finished, but my favorite while making was either a frog bucket hat, or my vest that I freestyled the pattern. Very proud of both.
Oh my gosh I’m so sorry to hear about your Mom it must be so hard for you, everyone who’s close to your Mom and your Mom too, having Alzheimer’s My heart really goes out to you all! On to crafting - I don’t really have a favorite thing of all time I made but I love making bees!!
Wendy, my heart hurts for you, and those going through those types of situations.
My favorite? 9 years ago I learned how to make a basic beanie. Big deal for me. Yay. So, we are watching a 9 month old grandson. Jerry is holding him on his knee, and they are watching me crochet him an orange hat. Took about 2 hours. I kept fitting it on him to get it just right. Finished, put it on his head, and carried him to the mirror. On the way, he was trying to take it off … until he saw it on his head in the mirror. He lit up. It was the cutest thing ever.
My first Amigurumi. I just made it and am so happy how she came out, bunny. The ears, legs and eyes don’t totally line up with each other, but that’s a learning place int to work on with my next.
I was browsing TikTok a few weeks ago and saw a froggy and mushroom cropped cardigan. Made it super fast and now I’m making the original pattern it was derived from!
My new favorite project is some chunky knitted fingerless gloves, my first finished knit project. It had some cables, and I honestly picked it up pretty fast. They not only look good, but feel good.
Actually picked up crochet from my great grandma, she’s 86 now. She can’t due to her arthritis, and gave me her supplies. She also might have dementia, and is kind of losing herself. It’s nice to visit and hear her stories, even if she repeats them. I understand the situation, and love the scarf you made.
