Im not good at it either, but i just write what i do as i go. If i have to frog aomething and redo it, i redo that part of the pattern as well!

This is my progress (I’ve been designing amigurumi for 9 years)

  1. Idea
  2. Sketch
  3. Choose yarns
  4. Crocheting + writing pattern notes + taking step-by-step photos
  5. Write the pattern
  6. Send pattern to testers
  7. Take final pictures
  8. Edit tester notes
  9. Release

For a beginner designer I would recommend to crochet and take notes (4) and then crochet it once again after your own pattern and take step-by-step pictures as you go. I don’t have the patience to crochet something twice so that is why I do it like this.

Write your pattern stupidly clear but with as few words as possible. I would recommend to make a really simple pattern to begin with. Good luck
