Yarn chicken is when you’re unsure if you’ll have enough yarn to finish so you get your stitches really tight and hope for the best XD

There also a joke that as you get closer to the end of your yarn, you start working faster
I’ve heard many say they do this, but honestly I don’t :woman_shrugging:t3:

It comes from the old game of “playing chicken” that takes many forms and consists of two persons doing something dangerous (like driving head on towards each other) and the first person to turn away is the chicken.
Playing yarn chicken is continuing to work with a yarn that you are not sure you have enough of but don’t want to buy more because it would mean another barely used ball in your stash
So you keep going to see if you finish the project before the yarn runs out.

Oh not me I work slower  most people would be motivated to work faster because of the dopamine produced by the brain by finishing a project, but mine has stopped producing dopamine about halway through loll

I ran out of yarn at R67 of a 70 rows square and it drives me INSANE :rofl: I so don’t wanna buy yarn for 3 rows. And can’t frog rows and use a smaller hook, cause stitches already really tight to get into. So my blanket will have 79x67 squares instead

I’ve heard the joke for when you are playing yarn chicken
Something about “going faster makes you think you’ll have enough yarn” or it helps give you hope, or something, I’m not 100% sure as like I said, I don’t speed up if I have little yarn left
 I might even slow down
(Maybe because I’m a realist on the verge of pessimistic?)
I’ve not heard of speeding up at the end of a project as being a common thing, but that means diddly squat, as there are a lot of things I haven’t heard of

I was saying this cause I have adhd  but there are actually studies about it (not just fiber arts, but most things), people tend to want to go faster towards the end cause the end is near and they can anticipate how it will feel to finish.

But adhd people don’t really get that. Unless there is a deadly deadline, then for sure we’ll finish faster, and at the last second :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah! In college I’d always start the assignment the same day it was due and hand it out minutes before the upload box thingy closed
