It’s very similar to people making animations with copyrighted music and post it to YouTube. They won’t be able to make money because it would be considered stealing something even though they might have credited it.

This is a lot more complicated than I thought it would be…. That’s so weird tho, because I’m sure there’s tons of patterns of copyrighted characters here. But idk, it’s probably not worth it…

It is better to create your own pattern, not based on a trademarked or copyrighted image or character
It doesn’t matter if you offer the pattern for free. Or whether you try to sell it. If you don’t get permission from the image or character’s copyright holder or trademark holder you are stealing. If you are just starting out as a designer this is not the way to do it
