Adding how many copies a designer has sold so far

I think it would be really inspiring for designers to be able to see how many copies other designers have sold. It could serve as great motivation, especially for smaller or newer designers who are aiming to grow their pattern business. Seeing what’s possible can push people to dream bigger and work toward that level.

Of course, I understand that not everyone might be comfortable with this — so maybe it could be an optional feature. But I think it would be a really cool and empowering addition overall.

I like that idea and was actually thinking this a few days ago

Although I am curious, I am not sure that would be a good idea. If I told you my top 2 sellers, you would create more like them, in order to sell a few yourself, which could cause me lost sales. Does that make sense?

That totally makes sense, and I can see where you’re coming from! I definitely agree that protecting your work is important — especially when you’ve put so much time and creativity into your top-selling patterns.

At the same time, I personally see sales transparency as a source of motivation for small designers. It gives them hope that their patterns can succeed too, and encourages them to keep improving and creating.

Of course, copyright still protects every designer’s work — so no one can legally copy your exact pattern or design. Even if someone is inspired by a best-seller, they’d still need to create something original in their own style. I think having both inspiration and respect for originality can coexist in a really healthy community.

Maybe an optional feature could work, so designers can choose whether or not to show their sales. That way, everyone feels comfortable.

I agree with you, some people might use that data in a less than ethical way and end up stealing other people’s work. If I were a designer I would want to keep this kind of data to myself.
