My second question for the Is it stealing or is it alright?-series:
You create an inspo pic with AI. Legally it’s yours to turn into a pattern. Practically we all know AI itself likes to steal so it might be very similar to a creation by someone else.
Are you obliged to check for very close patterns? If yes, where?
You did check everywhere you could, did all the hard work to create the pattern and now someone comes and can proof to have a similar pattern in some corner of the Internet since before you created yours. Are you obliged to delete yours?
AI is not stealing in the way most people thinks but I won’t go down that technical rabbit hole. Yes you can use AI for your inspirations (to visialize what’s in your mind) but since AI uses your ideas and relies on prompt input to generate images, you will not be able to use it as inspiration if you’re the creator of AI image.
If you use an AI image of a crochet item to make something real, you should search to see if anything similar already exists online. Yandex Image Search is fantastic for this.
If I HAD to use it, I would use related search, image search, and then contact anyone I find with something even remotely similar.
Something else I would do, is try to use different colours from the picture, or even different patterns. I would use very different techniques to what seems to be in the picture.
If someone gave me valid proof that their pattern is similar, I would take mine down in a heartbeat. I hate to be accused of stealing, and I hate to cause problems.
(I will admit, that last part can change when someone calls me a certain name… one that ticks me off enough that makes me an eternal enemy… just because of how I cough and clear my throat. Luckily none of you know that name, so everyone here is safe from my wrath.)
(Edit: I’m joking. This is over exaggerated. I just get a little annoyed, and then become a tad bit annoying. I’m not a mean person and I’m not going to do anything that gets me banned or cause actual problems that will step over the line. As long as no one calls me that name.)
I wouldn’t call someone a creator who managed to type a few words into an AI but that’s another story. Thanks for the tip about the image search, haven’t heard of that one before
