All this time, I’ve been using a crochet hook that was just a bit too big. Particularly for my most recent project, my dolphin amigurumi plush.
Originally, I used a 4.00mm with DK yarn. But then, someone pointed out that the stuffing was showing, and I agreed. Now, I’m using a 3.00mm sized hook with DK yarn and it looks much better.
From now on, I’ll be using 2.25-3.00mm sized hooks for my amigurumi plushies made of DK yarn!
I personally think a 3mm hook is perfect for dk yarn! Its not necessarily wrong if you use a bigger hook. With any yarn this follows: If you want your amigurumi to be bigger in size use a bigger hook or bigger yarn. But, I think one reason you may have gaps and you see the stuffing in your amigurumi is because when you decreased you didnt do an invisible decrease. A invisble decrease would give you tighter stitches, as well as working on your tension. Hope this helps
I did do invisible decrease stitches, actually. In fact, that’s what I always do. But you’re right–if I used I tighter tension, the stuffing wouldn’t show so much.
