Amigurumi faces

Is it better to put the faces on before or after you stuff the heads? Not the eyes, I usually use safety eyes and secure with glue on the inside. But as far as the faces go I’m still getting used to it.
What does everyone do? Faces sewn on after stuffing? Or before? Like the details, mouth, eyelashes, blush, etc…

How do the experts weigh in? I’m not looking at anyone specifically, but I kind of am. :joy:

I’m no expert, but I generally stuff it before adding details so that I know exactly how it will look when done.

Not sure if that helps any. :woman_shrugging:

Looking for many opinions. That is helpful.🫶🏼:sparkles:

I like to embroider my face before. this is because it’s way more secure to tie the knots like inside instead of the method where you push it into your plush. It also helps in the way that you can see underneath and place your stitches evenly!

In the early days I would add the details after stuffing & sewing up. But now I do it before for the same reasons as @BEEutifulCreations

I stuff to the point of eyes, put in safety eyes and fuss over it, then lock the safety eyes.
Repeat for everything else.

I embroider after i stuff and close the head.
Once you stuff the head it does change the shape of the head so it may distort the look if you do it before stuffing and closing the head.
Sometimes i do it before but it depends on what it is. If im just adding a bit of white around the bottom of the eye then ill do it before closing the head

Same as making any other type of stuffed item, you should add the details after you stuff it… Think about a ball with eyes versus a cabbage patch doll.
If you want a flat surface, fine, if you want to take it up a notch and improve your skills, then you want to use proper embroidering to sculpt your face after it’s stuffed.

Sometime I stuff it, embroider it, take stuffing out and then tie the embroidery floss , and stuff it again.
I want the ability to take it out the eyes/embroidery if I don’t like it.

I prefer to do the faces after I stuff the head and finish off. Sometimes I do it once I’ve sewed everything together

I always do the faces after stuffing. I find you don’t end up with weird contours after like you could when doing it before the stuffing

If the embroidery is basic like just a mouth I’ll do it before stuffing but most of the time I do it after. Especially if the face needs to be soft sculpted.
