Any advice on color changing

Hoi, there’s a small thing that bothers me while i color change. When i crochet slopes, one side is smooth and the other is pixelated, and its like that on ALL of my projects.

Does anyone have advice or know about a technique that would make both sides pixelated or both smooth. I dont care which one, i just want them to be the same lol.

I’ve watched many videos with many different techniques on how to color change, but i never see the slants being discussed in any of them.

Here is a photo of what i mean

TLDR: how do i make both sides the same

Hmm, what way did you color change when this happens? Do you yarn over or yarn under (once, twice, both/what order)? Is this in the round?

Yep this is in the round, and i do yarn under then yarn over in the same stitch.

And this happens with any method i tried for color changing, my prefered method (which i used here) is in the previous stitch, yarn under with the first color, then yarn over with the new color to make a sc. Then continue the next sc with the new color

This might help!

I’ve used this video before too

Ok, i actually did watch this video before and used it for making stripes, but i havent used it for color changing in the middle of the row . Now that im thinking of it, i should try a little half color change for each color before the row. I feel like this could give cleaner pixels.

Ill try it out and see how it goes

Hopefully the video helps! Let us know if it does, I’m curious to see if that method works in the middle of the row as well

I’ve found this comes with the stitches where we approach the color change, and what I ended up doing for a penguin is kind of hard to explain, but you basically make zebra stripes on your hook.
If you have color A and want to change to color B, it would work something like this:
Col A is on your hook, insert your hook in the next stitch and pull up a loop with col B, then finish the loop with A.
That will make it diagonal
I hope I managed to explain it!

From your photo I think I can see you’re using yusc (yarn under single crochets)? On appearance the right side diagonal is smooth because the diagonal bar that goes left to right on the characteristic x-shaped yusc stitches are purple. Perhaps the key for achieving the same smooth line on the left side is to make sure that you “invert” the yusc shape, so the little diagonal bar would go right to left. Maybe you could use a standard yo sc for that colour change? :slightly_smiling_face:

Interesting perspective, I’ll have to try that.

Ooo ill try that too.

Im slowly testing all these ideas out

You can try colour changing with yo sc by pulling the new colour through the last two loops of the previous stitch to complete that stitch. And then continue in the new colour :slightly_smiling_face:. I remember achieving smooth diagonal lines this way in a previous project, it might be what you’re after!
