Hi!
I am learning how to knit and i am wondering if there is anything that i should think about when i start. I have 3.5 mm needles that works in the round. I have knitted really basicly before (with straight needles and the most basic stitch) any help is appreciated
Is there anything in particular you want to make?
I don’t know i wanna learn increases and decreases and learn another stitch then the one i already know maybe a sweater
Do you know the Garter stitch and the pearl stitch?
Those are the two stitches that make up everything in knitting. Try making a headband first to get used to both of those stitches
Here’s a pattern for a knit sweater for when you’re ready to make one
I’m going to assume that you know how to make a knit stitch and a purl stitch, each have their own type of increases and decreases, but I think that the knit type are the more commonly used.
As for patterns, I honestly recommend Ravelry, there are hundreds of free sweater patterns of varying difficulty. I don’t have any that I could personally recommend as I haven’t made a sweater for myself (yet) but I’m sure you could find something that would be good!
These are some of my favorite vidoes on some of the different types of increases:
And this video I found helpful learning the types of decreases:
Also if you are not using a set of interchangeable circular needles, so you may want to try the magic loop for smaller loops (like the collar and sleeves), this is a video I found helpful:
And if you only have 3.5mm circular needles, I think that you want to looking for pattern that use a lighter weight yarn (so anywhere between weight 1-3).
I hope this is helpful!
Okay so i can do the knit stitch but i am having some trouble when i knit in the round there is this piece of yarn in between my needles that grows bigger and bigger the more i knit does anyone know how to fix it?
Do you have a photo?
I can add one tomorrow
Sounds like you need to pull yarn a bit tighter at the beginning of each round to compensate.
