Any tips for creating YT tutorials?

I am planning to make a video tutorial for my new free smiley sunflower pattern and I need any useful information for that. Like what is the best format, which app should I use and which is the best and for what, any other tips. Thank you in advance:two_hearts::heart_hands:t2::sparkles:

Hii! Some tips but the most effective way is to take a video thinking how a beginner would comprehend it (imo):

  • I recommend explaining and slowly going through several stitches in the beginning, and then picking up the pace if you’re only doing single crochets for example. If there is a new type of stitch (inc, dec, dc, sl st, etc) try to go over that as well.
  • It also depends on you but instead of skipping some very repetitive scenes, you could just speed them up. As a beginner I was rlly confused when ppl would just cut scenes, soooo yh.
  • Another tip is putting the pattern for the ROUND you’re on in the video (usually edited). This helps ppl skip over rounds when needed and still keep track of their progress. Like for example if you’re on round 12 and doing continuous increases, write continuous increases and what round you’re on above your hand (with which you’re crocheting)
  • I also highly recommend going over slowly or with detailed explanations on how to sew/glue the pieces of the sunflower together as beginners are always stuck on that

If you want to see some real life examples there is this youtube channel that explains things very beginner-friendly: lilthings. Basically what I said above - she mostly applies it in her videos.

These are the main tips that almost every beginner struggles with (maybe i’m missing some but oh well), but I hope this helped ^^ :beating_heart: (btw I said this already but your sunflower looks sooo cute! You did so well oml)

Wow, your answer and tips are really the best and extremely helpful! Couldn’t even expect such a detailed answer, thank you so much!
Unfortunately this pattern is not beginner friendly, I try to image it, but can’t, even with all detailed explanations…
As for me, I did keep a lot of stuff there… I’ve already recorded everything and I just can work only with what I have:woozy_face:
Also, I have a big problem with my storage yk.. sooo, it’s a bit tricky.
Plus, I’m using Canva for editing this video, and to be honest it sucks… like every time I want to play a specific part of it, the screen goes completely white for like 2/3 seconds (even though I see that the video is playing), and then the picture comes back. It slows down my work like crazy… and irritates me :goblin:
I think I need to find another app for editing my videos for YouTube, any recommendations?

Your welcome! Ah yes, I remember doing a presentation on canva and had the same issues lol! As for an app for editing, have you tried Capcut? I haven’t used it for 2 years now, so I can’t say anything about its current quality, however it must have all the functions you need and it’s pretty simple to use!

for editing, it depends what kind of phone you have-if you have an apple phone or a MacBook, PLEASE use iMovie! I always use that for editing the rough cuts of my videos for school, and then I import it into canva for fun graphics and stuff. good luck!

I think for a good tutorial just have clear instuctions, and make sure to show how to do each stitch slowly for beginners. Also i recommend you to have a written pattern in case there are more experienced crocheters and are looking for a wriiten pattern
