Apart from ‘dont work with black yarn’ hehe!
I love the colour black and you could make some super modern and elegant designs but it shows every speck of dust or other yarn fibre. What a palaver!
I am thinking a well lit working space is key plus doing it in the daytime vs the evening. Any other ideas? What has your experience been?

I have found that putting another light behind your work and looking for the spaces between the stitches also helps.

sometimes a raking light will bring out the texture better than a direct light.
so if you have a sunny window and a good lamp, set up so that one is the ambient light and the other is raking across the surface from the side.

Something white on your lap helps… I like natural light myself so near a window is best for me.

The best tip I found was putting a white sheet under the project in addition to fabulous daytime kind of bulbs in the lamp.

Yes crocheting when there is natural light is great. You can’t beat it!

This applies to all yarn, but having a stitch marker works really well! I don’t know how many times I’ve been crocheting with black yarn only to lose count and couldn’t see the first stitch, especially with it being practically invisible to see the stitches (good lighting works a ton) if you have trouble finding stitches even with lighting I usually grab a smaller hook or darning needle and slowly and gently poke it along the row and if it goes in it’s a stitch lol, I do this with chenille yarn, but I’m positive it’ll work with black and any type of yarn too

I do this! I have a small ring light I plug in next to where I’m working and put it on a bright setting to work under. Works like a charm!

Work under a lamp. Use stronger lighting if you need to!

Yes I do love a stitch marker! Especially when working in the round!

try and hold it upright rather than looking down at it and use good lighting in the room your working in in general

Oh wow coincidence?
I’m currently working on a project that uses an all black yarn and I use a lamp next to me when I crochet in the evening. Like I would put the lamp next to my hand when I am crocheting. Oh and using bright color stitch markers also helps!
