attaching yarn together

okay so i have a bit of a problem. im making a sweater and the directions said to leave a long tail when making the slipknot and i didn’t realize i had only left a short tail until I’d completely finished the ribbing and started the panels of the sweater. i really don’t want to frog it as im nearly half done with the panel. is there any way for me to connect a long stand of yarn after i finish the panel? i can just cut a long piece to attach to the short tail, but how should i go about it? should try to tie a knot even though the current tail is about an inch long or should i use fabric glue? maybe a combination of both? please give me your advice, and thanks in advance for all your help :smiling_face:

Use a magic knot I think that’s what it’s called

I’ve heard that the magic knot works, but you could also weave in the current tail, fasten on near the edge, make a few sl st (if it doesn’t mess up how the sweater looks) to the corner to secure the yarn then cut off leaving a long tail.

Is it just to sew the ribbing on with? Id weave it in then just attach a new long piece of yarn. Its more weaving in but maybe more secure than even a magic knot.

I tie it together, cut the ends, and burn it! It leaves a hard piece but it works lol

You could attach new yarn by doing this:

  1. slip knot onto hook
  2. insert hook into peice
  3. yarn over and pull through both loops

Hope this helps (;

Oh dang! This is probably a bit late, but have you heard of a Russian Join?!?! I just saw this on insta the other day and it looks wild! I don’t know if it is as sturdy as other methods, but it looks like it would be completely invisible if using the same color yarn :exploding_head:
