Hi, beginner knitter. I’m doing another wash cloth and at some point along the way at 2 am I dropped some stitches and just. havent recovered since. it does not look even anymore after fixing and I’m not sure what I did wrong. I want to post a photo of the other side but this app denies me that ability. The backside looks wobbly but not bad. You can see theres something up but it blends better, just not prefect.
thanks for any help in advance. The evil desire to frog everything persists but I must not. Its just a cloth!!!Ok so I’m also not very good at knitting Im aslo a beginner but I think I THINK that you went in the hoop/stitch backwards so Im more of a crocheted but I know for knitting you loop around and I think u looped the wrong way idk how to explain it but I hope u get what I mean
Also rip cloth

I think you purled instead of knit, that means you wrapped the yarn around the needle incorrectly.
They have demos on YouTube
So from the picture it looks as though you made the wash cloth using just a knit stitch on both sides, or this is the back side of a stocking stitch. However, when you were “picking up” the dropped stitch, you picked them up in the wrong direction, or didn’t alternate the picked up stitch direction to match the rest of your wash cloth. ![]()
First of all, your work looks good!
It’s a little difficult to tell from the picture exactly what went wrong, but I have a couple of ideas.
Were you planning to knit the entire washcloth in garter stitch (knitting every row, without purling)? If so, I think I know what might have happened! When you picked up your dropped stitches, you probably twisted every second row the wrong way. This changes the stitch pattern from garter stitch to stockinette stitch (alternating knit and purl rows).
I also suspect that you might have missed one stitch while picking up the dropped stitches, so you may now have one stitch fewer on your needle than you had originally.
But don’t worry! You don’t necessarily have to frog (undo) your work. You could simply embrace the new texture and enjoy your washcloth with its little relief pattern. Many people even create this kind of texture intentionally! ![]()
Alternatively, you could try to ladder back down and correct the stitches. Unfortunately, I’m on vacation right now, so I can’t make a little video to show you how. But there are lots of helpful YouTube videos that demonstrate how to fix dropped stitches and correct their orientation.
I hope this helps, and good luck with your washcloth! ![]()
