I frequently struggle to find the types of yarn that I need (especially <4), so I was wondering:
where do you get your yarn?

walmart is the only place near me that sells yarn. but joanns seems to have a lot of variety. just beware that when you order from joanns online it can take a while for your order to process

Joann! They have a more options that are also less expensive compared to Micheals where I live. But that could be because I just don’t pay attention to Micheals deals/sales when they have them

i get mine from michaels! im not sure if they are near you, but at least the store by me has weakly coupons such as 30% any one item :0000

I buy my yarn from lovecrafts. com (space included because I couldn’t post the link) ! They’re UK based but they process and ship pretty fast in my experience (I am also in USA) and their Paintbox yarns are so cute 
They also run lots of sales too, but shipping costs for smaller orders can be a little annoying. Overall, I recommend them highly for yarn of lots of sizes and materials lol
I also use Red Heart yarn which Walmart sells, but if your Walmart doesn’t have much of it or you can’t go, Amazon also carries it in lots of different colors! I really enjoy the feel of Red Heart Super Saver (acrylic) yarn. It’s cost effective, and you can get a lot of it for relatively cheap.
