i never work with bulky/fuzzy yarns. i decided to grab some lion brand “feels like bliss” for a monkey plushie. do you have experience with this yarn or something similar? what is your favorite hook size to use with it? i was thinking of using a 3.5mm, but still unsure if it’ll give me the structure i need.
thank you for taking the time to bless this post with your eyeballs.

A 3.5 would probably be tough! I usually use a 5, but if you just need the stitches super tight you could maybe get away with a 4-4.5

For amigurumi, I think a good rule of thumb (or like a starting point) is to try a hook about the same thickness as the yarn. The point of that is to keep holes in the work to a minimum, to prevent stuffing from sticking out. But depending on your tension, you may need a bigger or smaller hook to achieve that.
(I haven’t used Feels like Bliss before so I can’t give an exact size suggestion. I just find this method works best for me, no matter which plush yarn I’m using)

I have this yarn and I use a 3.5mm hook (I use the same size hook for plush and acrylic). My tension is pretty tight, so it makes my plushies kinda stiff, but I worry that if I size up my hook size it will be to loose and hole-y. I use the same hook for my acrylic yarn that is the same thickness as the lion brand, and my projects aren’t stiff, so I just believe that the lion brand is a stiff yarn.(it probably just my hook size though)

i have the same worries! usually, i go down the smallest hook i’m comfortable with. i crochet tight AND i grip my hook like it’s gonna skip town. it’s like a balance of tension with both so i don’t stress my wrists out.
playing around with this yarn more, i actually dropped down to a 3.25mm hook.
3.5mm is fine for me, but the ~vibe~ i’m trying to accomplish seems to come out with 3.25mm. hopefully i won’t lose my mind. this yarn is sooo soft tho.
