Maneki Neko Turbo Granny

Hey everyone! I’m excited to share that I’m looking for testers for my new crochet pattern: the adorable maneki-neko (also known as Turbo Granny) from the anime Dan da Dan! If you’re interested, please let me know!

For this project, I used:
Himalaya Dolphin Baby yarn — a little more than one skein of white, and small amounts of brown, red, green, light pink, and yellow; Scheepjes Catona in black and white for the eyes and embroidered details; a small golden bell, 4.5 mm and 2.75 mm crochet hooks, a tapestry needle, and stuffing.

You can crochet with any yarn in any color, using appropriate hook sizes.

You’ll also need to know (or learn) how to embroider a French knot for the cat’s fingers.

I’ll be selecting testers in the next few days, and you’ll have two weeks to complete the project. Can’t wait to see who joins in!:paw_prints:

I have polyester bulky yarn and use 4.5 hook with it. Personally the need to learn a new knot sounds so fun!

Ahh! Fun!

I will use Loops &Threads Soft classic (weight 4) with a 5mm hook

Will need to learn the French knot but it cant be that hard… right…?

I’d use a 4.5mm hook and I’ll watch videos on how to do the French knot :)

oh this sounds like fun! I’d use worsted-weight and 4mm hook. I could do black and gold like other waving cats too, so everyone else could see all the variations.
I was wondering: what does the character on the necklace mean?

I have been watching Dandadan. Love the opening…frickin earworm…can’t get the song out of my head.

But yeah would love to take a crack at this :). I am a quick learner :)

Oh, the French knot is super easy! I actually learned it just for this kitty! :paw_prints: It’s much simpler than trying to find the right loops on a small paw to embroider with regular straight stitches. Give it a try—it’s a fun little detail to add! :ribbon:

千 (sen) means “thousand.”
万 (man) means “ten thousand.”
両 (ryō) refers to an old Japanese currency used during the Edo period.
So, 千万両 means ten million ryō.

I love this!
I attempted making a Maneki Neko plush for a friend’s birthday and stumbled across this post (and the entire Ribblr app ) while researching!
I know how to do a french knot from embroidery, so attempting it in crochet sounds super fun!
