Does it matter what size bottle I use?

Nope! Not at all! Just make the bottom smaller for a small/medium water bottle and bigger for a bigger water bottle

Really love the look. I am wondering why your strap is not done with a foundation chain and sc’s. It would be more even as a strap. None of my business it would just be more even and heavier. I have done designing in the past. Is there a reason it is not made with a foundation chain then sc across maybe 5 to 6 rows. I am big on sc vs dc.

I just liked the look of the strap with Dc ig 
Also I’m sorta impatient so I thought the way I did it was quicker, I dont know if it is honestly but I could totally try it with a foundation chain + Sc and add it in the pattern as a alternative to the Dc <3
