It’s been 2 years since I decided to focus on my own art ONLY. And I do not regret my decision, no matter what people say. If I hadn’t made that decision, I wouldn’t have started selling physically, and I still would have been at risk of facing legal action for copyright infringement.
Let’s make one thing clear: Without permission or a license, it is NOT legal to sell copyrighted characters in any form under any circumstances. This, of course, includes crochet patterns amigurumi plushies. It’s no use trying to give them different names–they will still be recognised by the owner!
The effects will be catastrophic, such as receiving a cease & desist notice (the least devastating effect), having your shop taken down (the more devastating effect) or getting sued by bigger companies (the most devastating effect).
You know, it’s a good thing I did take my video game themed stuff down. Otherwise, things could have been much different and potentially worse. I’m much happier creating my own art!

has anyone ever gotten copyrighted on here?
do companies care enough about stuff like this, and suing or filing a case about a ribblr pattern?

I know it is illegal to sell. I don’t sell stuff. I have made stuff for friends before I knew anything about copyright stuff like years ago. I was wondering if that was an issue? It wasn’t mass market or anything. It was just a present for a friend or a friend’s kid here and there.

Totally agree. Unfortunately many don’t care about legal or not, they only see the $$. Copyright items are more easily noticed by people and stick out so they garner more attention and can result in more sales. It sucks for those of us who don’t infringe upon IP and don’t get those same benefits. Then there’s those who claim it’s ‘fan art’ and they’re protected, no matter how many sources you send them.
No one thinks they will be the ones to get a cease and desist, lose their accounts/stores, or get fined. I’ve given up trying but maybe more people telling them will finally work

Oh, yeah, you can make fanart as gifts, as long as they’re free. Selling them obviously isn’t OK.

It depends what character ur making bcs some characters have permissions for artists but most of them without explicit permission you can’t sell.
