The funniest part of this is that it really doesn’t matter since you only need the size for personal reference.
Every patten should have gauge and you should always use the size that meets gauge, regardless of what size that size is called.
Yarn weights on the other hand are a much better indication of what you are getting into… And that’s a real mess when dealing with international patterns that didn’t include gauge.
