To the people that have used ergonomic hooks and non-ergonomic, does it rly make a difference? And do you think it reduces the chance of pain? And how does it affect you
Thank you in advance <3

I mean it feels comfier with the hold but simply metal is still good. Ive had simple meatal hooks for about 2 years now and are still good, Ive only gotten a hook with a hold today and its not that bad.
I dont get pain with non ergonomic hooks but ergonomic hooks do feel nice. I like both.
Both are fine I don’t get pain when I use non I do prefer ergonomic
hooks just because they fit my hand better
I really like the ergonomic hooks better, its comfier for me, because some metal hook are small, and kinda hurt to grab.
I like the metal ones because of how practical they are but I’m thinking of switching bc overtime my hand and wrist start to hurt rly bad
I get bothered by the ones with grips cause the bottoms always get torn from the metal hook inside so I usually only buy simple metal so it’s not a waste of plastic
Compression gloves help a lot too you can find them on Amazon
I’ve also been thinking about buying those kind of gloves, do you know any good quality but not too expensive options?
As a person who deals with chronic pain and nerve issues, I cannot crochet with a regular metal hook anymore. After years of only using ergonomic hooks, I tried to use a metal one a few days ago and my fingers went numb after like 20-30 minutes lol. So they definitely do make a difference!
Wow.. I’m glad you could find something that works for you
When I wasn’t using ergonomic hooks, my hands did hurt a lot, but now, that I use ergonomic hooks, it’s good, so I think they’re really great and worth buying.
Yes! I can definitely tell a difference. I personally use an interchangeable hook because the smaller ergonomic hooks still hurt my wrists. I also have some ophire hooks and they are also help but theybare incline so i havevto size down with them for some reason
I also work in a kitchen so im constantly using my wrist between chopping something and crocheting
I find that non ergonomic hooks hurt only after using it for awhile. I get blisters, this is probably just my technique tho, but the ergonomic hooks reduce pain and blisters for me.
My most used hooks are 1, a plastic 8 mm hook. And 2, an ergonomic 6.5 mm hook. I like my 8mm one better because the yarn crochetets smoothly when I’m making granny squares and snakes. My 6.5 mm hook is a little bit more annoying to crochet with. I am working on a bag handle with some pink chenille yarn. And the yarn keeps getting stuck and I have to adjust my hook all the time. Idk why that happens but so far I kinda like non ergonomic hooks better
Ergonomic are 100% better!!!
I think that difference is because it’s plastic vs metal, not ergonomic vs non ergonomic?
I DIYed my ergonomic handles for my hooks. It does help for me. I get discomfort and pain when I crochet for too long, especially with tight tension. Making sure I take enough breaks, stretching, and making my hook handles thicker have all helped me crochet more. I still need to find a compression glove or something that I like though… I have one but it doesn’t fit very well.
The reason it works is because you don’t have to grip as hard if the handle is bigger. It just reduces strain/tension on joints/muscles/tendons in the hand, since your fingers don’t have to close as far. But different shapes of ergonomic handles will work for different people, depending on how one holds the hook and crochets. It’s not a one size fits all kind of thing.
I don’t know what ones my mom got me so I suggest looking at the rating and how many people reviewed that product until you find one that’s good quality and price
I started with the one from wooble which is the rubber handle. Then i got more susan bates ones which were just metal. I’ve had tendonitis in both of my hands for over 15 years now (probably because I’ve been typing since I was 10) and so I learned quickly that the thin metal ones were not my jam. I got some boye hooks that were more comfortable by far but they started squeaking. Upgraded to clover amour and haven’t looked back. They’re so nice and no squeaking. Unless I’m working with super plushy yarn or super tiny yarn, I don’t have any hand issues anymore. But if I go back to the thin metal, I can only go for maybe 30 minutes before my hands hurt a ton. So they do help, and using them early on may help prevent issues with your hands later in life too.
I have seen people put makeup blenders on their metal hooks or tennis balls to make them ergonomic so cheaper way to get what you need without buying more expensive hooks!
