My hot take is sewing is a nescesary skill that every crocheter should know how to do.

slst and ch1 is unecessary for amigurumi… (there I said it)
pulling from the center is annoying, once it gets too low it turns into a mess
Pulling from the center is overrated
i hate my yarn flipping all over the place when i don’t pull from center. can’t do it. i cake all of my yarns now
I feel the same way, but I still do it because I find it even more annoying to have the yarn going all over the place
My hot takes are
Making clothing is way mroe fun than amigurumi
Natural fibers are better to crochet with.
My hot take:
Not every crochet pattern/video needs to be beginner friendly. As someone who is in the advanced beginner stage and starting on more intermediate to sorta advanced projects for my skill level, I find it a bit irritating when I look through comments on videos or posts showing off a neat “hack” or cool stitch and lots of beginners in the comments practically bash the creator for “not going slow enough” to teach them as a beginner. This is usually the case for tutorial accounts that show skills for everyone from beginners to advanced (so they slow down on beginner videos and speed up for more advanced crafters) so I just think it’s a little weird to demand someone online to show you a skill a certain way rather than finding a tutorial that suits your needs.
My best example of this is when I learned to tie the magic knot from a video on Facebook and people in the comments kept asking the creator to slow it down more (it was practically step by step breakdown) because they didn’t understand. Other crochet accounts praised the tutorial though so maybe I’m just crazy lol
Yes i agree. I have been watching videos of creators saying that they feel as if people have forgotten google exists as a helpful platform. (Not naming names bc of privacy) because so many people ask for tutorials on how to make said crochet object and then bash the creator for not going slow enough. That’s why I feel that when people put disclaimers on their video like: “this is a tutorial/pattern for XYZ pattern. Not a step by step tutorial on the stitches used. If you want to learn how to do these stitches there are tutorials that I found helpful on XYZ’s channel” or something like that.
@hazymidnight,
You can literally slow down or pause the video if you’re a beginner…… you don’t have to call out and attack the creator
I dont think thats what @hazymidnight is saying. I think they are saying that many people bash creators for not making their tutorials beginner friendly. And they are saying that people shouldn’t be bashing them for not making begginer friendly tutorials.
I agree wholeheartedly because then it’s not even considered amigurumi. Amigurumi is the art of making toys in a continuous spiral instead of in even horizontal rows.
My hot take is that crochet shrugs are a little annoying. When you raise your arms the front part crumples up and doesn’t go back down nicely and they’re kind of hard to style for me. They look so cute on others though!
preach!
I would rather wade through yards of banner ads on a blogpost than watch a 20 second tutorial video
oh gosh, so on the other side of this one I love ami and I have intense insecurity about making clothing. I can screw up even the easiest pattern when seaming and blocking are involved
I am glad you are out there in the crochetverse! We need all types of crocheters!
Pattern links should lead to patterns, not videos. I hate clicking on a pattern link only to have YouTube pop up. At ther very least, video links should be labeled as such.
okay maybeee i just dont know how to work with it properly but i hate acrylic yarn.
also (im reallyyy sorry about this one) most granny squares just aren’t very pretty
i literally have no clue how to make a granny square look right, but I’m also not a fan of the ones with like a bunch of clashing colors (like green, then neon orange, white, etc.)
i agreee, like obviously theres a lot of super pretty and delicate granny squares but some are just like…why did you choose those colors (to me anyway)
