Crochet tips for beginners!😁

Hey y’all, this post is rlly just for begginers:grin: and if you are not a begginer maybe share some tips for our fellow new ribblrs:winking_face_with_tongue:!so I’m going to share y’all some crochet tips that honestly I did not know and wish I did:sob:so sit back and relax here are some crochet tips!:money_mouth_face:

1.flip you projects:

When you are doing amigirumi always remember to flip the projects so no that your on the good side cause when you crochet one side is always better than the other so when you flip it your project is showing the good side!

2.use stitch markers:

When you are doing amigirumi you can use a piece of yarn,a hair pin,a mini keychain,a hair tie or a stitch marker to mark your first/last stitch so that at the end of a row you’ll know if you added a stitch or you skipped a stitch!

3.count your stitches:

When you are crocheting amigirumi always remember that when you finish a row don’t just continue, take the time to go back and count your stitches to know if you did the right amount the pattern tells you beacause you maybe added too many stotches or your missing some stitches!

4.dont start with a big project:

When I first started crochet I started with a scarf but I did not know that I did not know the basics enough for it to be decent so then after one month of doing it it turned out weird and wonky so I recommend you start with an amigirumi no sew octopus or a granny for starters!

5.go in both loops:

Again when I crocheting that scarf I was just stabbing my hook in there and doing a single crochet, but beacause of that I was sometimes only going in the front loops,or the back loops and sometimes I skipped stitches or added stitches so make sure you pay attention and go in whatever loops you need to!

6.keep tension how your comfortable:

Crochet is a fun craft, not a task,so when you are crocheting don’t make your tension too tight cause it would be stuff, but don’t make it too loose or there will be holes, make your tension how your comfortable and enjoy crochet

If you already know how to crochet share some tips for the new ribblrs, and to the new ribblrs welcome to Ribblr!!!

I used to only go in front loops! And I started with a hat, and, well, I’m too embarrassed to show it

I’d say that for beginners in amigurumi, definitely don’t skip the eye backings. I got really frustrated and annoyed and I didn’t like how the eyes sometimes looked sunken, so for a while I just didn’t add the backings. Don’t do that, you’ll definitely regret it later when they keep falling out

Also make sure you use a good hook size! Bigger does not always mean easier (I started with an 8 mm on weight 4 yarn augh I cringe just thinking about it
) I generally go a couple of sizes down than from the label

And also I wouldn’t start with high quality, expensive, or plush yarn just because when you’re starting out it’s not going to be great so imo you should start with cheaper yarn

Side note does anyone else not understand why people say that plush yarn is generally hard to see stitches in? Like for faux fur I get it but for typical size 6 chenille yarn for me honestly it was much easier to see the stitches because the yarn was thicker.

For your first tip, the most common way it is told is noodle in the bowl. This means your tail from your starting ring should be on the inside of your project. A better way to make sure you are working right side out is to make sure you are inserting your hook from the outside of your project. Basically, your hook should be in between your work and your body  The inside will have visible horizontal bars and the outside will have V’s for yarn over or X’s for yarn under.

The number 1 tip i have is to not start with a big project like a scarf or blanket because when i did I finished it and didn’t crochet for a year because i got so bored of just doing the same stitch over and over again so definitely start with amigurumi because it is so easy and teaches you the three basic stitches increase sc and decrease and you get a cute little instead of a wonky scarf!

Don’t start w granny squares if u have ADHD (I learnt my lesson well lol)

Something I still do today -

when doing the Magic Ring with plush yarn, don’t start doing ur stitches into it straight away, instead make the loop, ch1, insert your hook into it and tighten the magic ring until it is just a bit bigger than ur hook. This will make it much easier to tighten.
