(See the Stashbust Challenge Summary below for more info!)
Welcome to the final month of this stashbusting challenge: De-Stash December!
I hope youâve all been having fun and thank you for sticking around. This last month we are going to be largely focusing on the feeling of our makes rather than any specific techniques, construction, or materials! Remember that although this is a challenge meant to encourage you to work with what youâve already got, itâs incredibly low-stress - donât fret if you buy more yarn. Youâre welcome here whether you havenât purchased a skein this entire year or youâre practically bathing in your incredible Black Friday loot. Youâre also welcome to share your destashed makes that arenât âon themeâ; we love to see it all.
Week 1: Festive
Week 2: Gift
Week 3: Joy
No Buy November
No Buy November is underway - and before anyone asks, you can absolutely buy things for your craft needs; itâs just a catchy title to drive home the idea that we will be trying to work from the yarn stash we already own! This is really truly the chillest of challenges solely meant to motivate you to create, so get cozy and feel free to share your latest works with us (even if theyâre not on theme ).
This monthâs prompts will embrace not only the year slowly (well, quickly LOL) winding down with themes that honor our ever-busy schedules, but will also hopefully encourage playfulness and curiosity with our craft.
Week 1: Scraps Intro
Week 1: Scraps Inspo
Week 2: New Stitch Intro
Week 2: New Stitch Inspo
destocktober
Welcome to DESTOCKtober! This month will be all about challenging you to step into the unknown, but likeâŠway less dramatic than it sounds, haha! In September we tried out different types of projects, but this month we will be facing our fiber fears and finding fun new ways to engage with our craft! The final two weeks will be explained in greater detail as the days draw nigh.
Stasbust Challenge Summary
This is a Stashbust September type of challenge that may potentially just evolve into a stash busting thread in general.
I know last year there was a challenge hosted on IG (not really active at the moment, so I havenât checked if happening this year), but those tend to have daily prompts instead of the weekly prompts I was going to propose. I think weekly themes are a little easier to keep up with, especially when people might be doing larger projects to eat up more yarn or possibly have other ongoing commitments (or challenges).
The âchallengeâ would be extremely low stakes and low pressure - really just a fun little way for us to work through our yarn stashes and encourage one another during the process.
Iâll give a prompt or theme for the week and we do our best to make something related to it from the yarn we have on hand. People can participate as much or as little as they desire - you do NOT have to participate every week, but obviously weekly participation is welcomed! We can share any goals we have, the projects weâre planning to work on, the yarn weâre using, progress pics, and anything else that may come up during the de-stash. This is super chill, so please donât worry if you end up buying yarn or have to because of a commission or something. Ultimately the point is just to get us creating and, ideally, whittling down our collections - together.
As for the prompts, theyâll generally be more vague so people can tailor them to their yarn and needs, but I will include suggestions (free and paid) from Ribblrâs pattern library for anyone who needs inspo (though youâre ofc encouraged to work on any projects you want to). I have about 11 prompts already written down and would be open to your suggestions, which is why I figure we could extend the challenge through the rest of the year if anyone is up for that!
For a little extra motivation to join in on the weekly prompts, Iâll add anyone who participates to a random drawing each week and gift the winner a pattern from their wishlist. To be clear, this is not a Ribblr sponsored event in any way, just my own small way to support designers while motivating anyone who needs to buy less and create more with what theyâve already got (cough me cough).
If that sounds fun to you or is something youâre interested in, reply with your favorite heart emoji(s) or drop a line below. ^.^
