What a lovely theme
Yay! Iām glad to hear it!
A bit late, but hereās the gift projects I made this month (or some of them anyways, the others are already wrapped).
The fawn marks the start of my future deer herd, the pattern for which was gifted to me (thank you again foxfrogandfern!) I think I have enough tan for one more fawn, so when Iām next at a craft store to pick up more, Iāll also be able to get the wire the doe and stag require.
Gifts for my family include: this set of ninja turtles, a baby jellyfish with squashed proportions, and a banana boat slug (missing itās pun-completing boat)
Joy/Bugsmas!
Bugsmas completed last week, and during the event I made all 12 species, with some bonuses amounting to 30 bugs! They were the highlight of my mornings and really pushed me to crochet each evening, a habit Iām hoping to maintain.
I enjoyed them so much Iām hoping to make a few more over the next week. Specifically, at least one more velvet worm, a snail with a strawberry for a shell, and using the dung beetle pattern to make a scarab beetle.
I never expected a bag of crochet bugs to bring me so much joy, but here we are.
A bug breakdown for fun:
Species | Amount | Additonal Bugs |
---|---|---|
6-Spotted Ladybug | 2 | N/A |
Blue-Banded Bee | 1 | +1 Yellow Bee |

Rosy Maple Moth | 1 | +1 Poodle Moth |
Green Darner/Dragonfly | 1 | N/A |
Orchid Mantis | 1 | +2 Green Mantis |
Japanese Emperor Caterpillar | 2 | N/A |
Acorn Weevil | 3 | N/A |
Grasshopper | 1 | +1 Cricket |
Dung Beetle | 1 | N/A* |
Honeypot Ant | 4 | +3 āāStandardāā Ants |

The ninja turtles were initially based off of kittenmallowās design, the head+body pattern ended up being mostly the same. I donāt like sewing very much, so I modified it enough that only the back shell was sewn on.
This was my second time making the set, and I actually preferred my first go at them. I realized retroactively that Iād made the limbs by slst down through both loops of the chains last time, which gave them so much more structure. But these will work just fine as ornaments for their recipient. Iāve never made them with the limbs per the pattern, but they are cute with puffy limbs.

The jellyfish is another one that only loosely looks like the source pattern, I shortened the tentacles dramatically and the overall size slightly (which made the frills look a bit different). Iāve done the pattern 4 times previously, and itās very cute when followed properly.
I believe the pattern originated on Instagram, so thatās were the link leads, but I found it on Pinterest.
Crocheter and Pattern Designer š¤ on Instagram: "Free jellyfish pattern!! Iāve been wanting to release a free pattern for a while now so here it is!! If you make this jellyfish feel free to tag me in your post so I can see all of your beautiful creations!! also, I forgot to mention in the pattern that the eyes can be placed on R7-8 about 5 stitches apart :) If you have any questions, comment them below :) #freecrochetpattern #crochetpatternfree #instgram #crochet #freepattern #jellyfish #freejellyfishcrochetpattern #crochetjellyfish #amigurumi #freepatternamigurumi #crochetaddict #jellyfishplush #yarnlover #crochetinspiration"
The bugs were designed by ComplicatedKnots:

Although the banana boat slug was heavily inspired off of a pattern I saw for āāFlip the Banana Slugāā that can be found here on Ribblr.
Additionally, I have two more gifts to crochet: a tiny cat WIP in variegated pink/white yarn I should finish today, and a frog that Iāve got the yarn for, but not yet started.
I just finished these two frogs!!! I usually dont get super ecstatic about the things i make, but these two were so so cute i would say that these bring me joy
Itās the last week of our destash event - can you believe it? We are continuing to keep things on the easy breezy side as I know this tends to be a full time of year for a lot of people.
The theme is reflection which is an invitation to not only ponder your crafting journey this year, but to set some intentions for the year to come - if you so desire! This is a freebie week, where anything is up for grabs to work on (suggestions in the graphic), but youāre also welcome to just share with us any projects from 2024 that were especially signficant to you in some way or stand out to you in your bevvy of makes, whether you like how they turned out, they challenged you, they served as a milestone for you, you enjoyed working on them, you learned a lot, the recipient reaction, etc.
Thank you to this little group for being a part of this ride with me and embracing the challenge - seeing all of your works has been truly inspiring and encouraging; I donāt think I would have done any crochet/knitting this half of the year without you all motivating me with your creativity.
I also just want to wish everyone who celebrates a happy holiday season; I hope these days are overflowing with warmth and joy for you
thank you for hosting such a lovely event. Iād post a significant make, but frankly, theyāre all significant to me considering i only picked up the craft this year. hopefully in the next year, i can remember to take more time for personal projects and to not get as burntout making things for others
I can see why!! They came out so adorable
Oh ny goodness you were so busy! Thatās absolutely incredible how much you accomplished with bugmas, especially - you have a whole colony of critters now! Your family is gonna love their gifts, too
Fair enough! Congrats on your first year of crochet - youāve already accomplished so much!
I think thatās a wonderful goal to have and one that probably resonates with many of us. I wish you much success with that endeavor in the coming year, and look forward to seeing more of those personal projects
Quickly wanted to share one of my creations that covers both the Gift and Joy prompts: these Shrek ear hair clips.
I actually stumbled across a video tutorial on TikTok, which was not in my native langauge, but learning some Spanish crochet terms while following along with the video was actually pretty fun for me. I also got the chance to do something new making hair clips and using felt in this way. And ofc, itās hard not to smile as the shape comes to life because the ears are so fun. All three of these aspects made this project a joyful one for me to work on.
These clips also happened to be a present for my (adult) niece and their reaction was absolutely better than I could have hoped for or imagined; the best way I can describe their response was pure and utter elation, and that giddiness deepened my sense of joy for this already enjoyable project.
Iām modeling them here because my niece is camera shy, but I wanted yāall to get an idea of how they looked!
Is that @Hartmeās frog pattern?
Yeah it is! @SporkyGirl was one of my testers !! @SporkyGirl im glad it brings you joy
!!! And it would be really nice if you posted the links to my frog pattern and the other creators frog pattern in the post!
Whew! Iām really late for this updateā
Iāve spent a lot of my time since October making Christmas gifts! Despite that I was of course rushing to finish gifts the day before Christmas as always.
As well as the fact that I always manage to forget to take final photosā
Each of these is just the most recent photo I took before I wrapped them.
So, Christmas gifts I made this year!:
Grandmaās
Summary
I made her some convertible mittens and a hat out of yarn from the Alaska trip she took us on!
Momās
Dadās
My youngest brotherās
I made each of my brothers a little controller keychain as a stocking stuffer as well
They all loved the gifts (except my grandma because I havenāt given her herās yetā)!
Some of these were really fun to make, others were stressful lol.
I also made this double stranded hat (Passioknit Kelsieās chunky knit hat tutorial) as a stash buster a couple days ago!
I love the texture of it
Time really flew by! I canāt believe itās already the end of the year.
Hereās some of my most memorable projects!:
Summary
First up is of course the Delilah Dragon! I loved testing this! (I always love testing her patterns lol. Sheās a wonderful designer and person!)
This is my biggest amigurumi and in general one of my biggest projects ever
Delilah the Dragon: Crochet pattern | Ribblr
Next up is the C130 plane I made for my dad! This was such a long project but the outcome was so worth it!
C130 Hercules Plane: Crochet pattern | Ribblr
Now of course, my biggest project ever! This was supposed to be a Christmas present for my parents, but by the time it was December 1st I still had 200 hours of work leftā

I have about x2 the work done in these photos now. Iām just too lazy to take new onesā

I have a lot of milestone projects (in knitting and spinning especially) so I wonāt be posting those lol.
Thanks for such a wonderful couple of months of creating! This thread really inspired me to create more and to leave my comfort zone.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!!
Those are so creative!!!
I will now, at the time tho both patterns werenāt released and one was a suprise pattern that was a part of a secrect collab
Oh, okay that makes perfect sense (Iām really sorry if I sound rude AT ALL ) Ty!!
You didnāt sound rude at all!
Arenāt they? I wish I could take credit for the design, but sadly I am not so clever. It gave me so many ideas though!
The colors of your dragon are gorgeous and I can absolutely see why that would be a memorable one for you! I love the side by side with the pup - really gives you a sense of just how big!
The plane is so impressive . Iām sure your dad was totally floored!!!
I hope to see the updated project once youāve finished in August; you have made really great progress already, so Iāve no doubt youāll reach your goal!
Congratulations on your milestone projects in knitting and spinning, as well! Itās wonderful you had so many creative accomplishments this year
Iām delighted the challenge inspired you in those capacities and grateful to you for sharing and participating.
Happy New Year to you, as well!
The end of the year is officially here and just wanted to say thank you again to everyone who joined in these past few months! It was fun getting to know you all through this shared fibercraft of ours.
To end the year, I decided to take it easy and just finish up a couple wips that I had started during the challenge, including this blue pocket shawl which Iām just awaiting buttons to add (and am debating blocking):
and these mug rug coasters (I just barely managed to squeeze out 4 of them from my remnant skein).
As far as memorable makes or milestones this year: I published my very first pattern
But the make that stands out to me most, I think, was either my soot sprite bag or the turtle planter. They were both fun to work on, and I was pretty happy with the results (linking the makes so you can also check out the patterns) which is super rare for me:
Also wanted to update that I donāt think Iāll be hosting the pattern destash challenge just yet, as Iām not sure how much time Iāll have to dedicate towards it, and I want to be able to give everyone their due attention. This brings me to one of my craft-related goals this year, though, which is to work through my pattern library, which is vast.
In a similar vein, I want to more mindfully purchase both patterns and yarn and just to be more intentional with my making, in general, this year. Because my responsibilities and constraints on my time will be growing, itās more clear to me than ever how important it is to make the time I carve out for those creative endeavors really count and to make things I am truly proud of.
While I donāt want to put a number on it or pressure myself into creating, I would also love to publish a few more designs this year. Making Lulu was a highlight of 2024 because I learned SO MUCH being a designer and got to engage with other crafters in a unique way. I think experiencing things from the designer side taught me how to be a better tester, as well.
Additonally, I would like to delve more into knitting this year. I always put knitting on the backburner because I get more instant gratification from crochet (Iām slow and less skilled at knitting), but thatās sort of the point for me - embracing that slowing down, developing the skill, and encouraging that goal of mine to be making more mindfully, enjoying the process and not just the destination.
Iād also like to be more active in the fiber arts community again (including Ribblr) and perhaps take part in some craft fairs/markets, but Iām not going to push myself too much.
My last goal that I can think of right now, haha, is to get more organized with my craft space. I want to be able to feel inspired and invigorated instead of overwhelmed when I see all the materials at my disposal.
And I think thatās it!
Thanks once more to all for pariticpating. I wish each of you a magical and wonderful 2025. May you have a fabulous year full of learning, loving, and laughing.
