does anyone here know how to help with wrist pain?

UPDATE: hiii! I’ve been stretching my wrists daily with videos on youtube, and it’s been helping so much! I’ve also gotten compression gloves. My wrists are doing much better now, with only a little pain now, but it’s getting better each day!

Hi! I have been inactive here recently because I’ve been having trouble crocheting from wrist pain. I’m stretching my hands, taking breaks, and elevating it. But I don’t really know what else I can do. It doesn’t seem to be helpful enough :frowning:
does anybody else here struggle with wrist pain? If so, how do you help your wrist pain?
thank you.

I don’t have wrist pain unless I’ve been crochet all day with double like crochets but I’d check it out at the doctor because it could be that you need a break from crochet. I also saw people putting a tennis ball on the crochet hook for some reason I cant remember but there are also gloves to help. Remember to keep your posture in good shape too lol shoulders relaxed

Look into a wrist brace, it might help. But I’d go see a doctor to see if there isn’t a bigger issue.

Might I ask what brand of compression gloves you use? I’ve been wanting to try compression gloves, but I’m not sure where to find them.
Thank you!

Perhaps try compression gloves! Also, try to relax your hand while holding the hook, instead of cramping your muscles. Vary your stitches, so you dont repeat the same movement over and over again. If the pain continues, it might be wise to visit a doctor!

Thank you so much! I’ll be sure to vary my stitches. I’ve noticed that the repetitive movement from only using one stitch is causing my wrists to hurt.

just like any other activity that can cause wrist pain (outside of carpel tunnel and arthritis) it’s usually tendinitis, and the cure is prevention.
I mean that it’s in your technique. Any repetitive movement that is done while your wrist is not in a relaxed and neutral position will most likely cause tendinitis. Wearing wrist braces to stabilize your wrists can help retrain you on how to crochet without straining your wrists.
For immediate relief, there are a few things you can do
warm compresses… hot towel in a baggie, hot packs/pads made for the purpose, or if you happen to have a paraffin bath
strengthen other muscles in your arms to take the pressure off your wrists…resistance bands are great for this
massage…always remember that muscles get rubbed with the grain, tendons get rubbed across the grain
keep stretching and warming up before starting the activity that usually causes the problem
I hope this helps

In addition to the great advice heres I’ll add to stretch before you start a session, not just during/after/when in pain. Wrist circles (big, small, fast, slow), flexing and pointing your hand. I do my old piano hand warm ups. The internet is chock full of good gentle yoga for hands or musical instrument hand warm up videos. They’ll help!

i often doing get wrist pain, but instead in pinky . I do amigurumi and i hold the yarn like down and in place with my pointer finger and pink finger and my pinky always hurts because it’s curled for like hours at a time. is this just me?

Maybe you need to find another way to hold your crochet hook so it’s not straining your pinky so much. I don’t think I’ve ever felt pain in just my pinky before from crochet

Thanks a lot! I’ll definitely start stretching my hands before I crochet!
