Also to add, you can’t just credit someone and its immediately considered not copyright. That’s not how that works. You need express permission. There’s a lot of misinformation floating around Ribblr about this but copyrighted/licensed characters do not stop being copyrighted/licensed simply because you change the name or state in your intro that its based on that. Most people saying that likely haven’t taken a business law course. I’ve taken many and can guaranty that is not how it works.

That being said, people take the risk often. A lot of people get away with it and have for a long time. Others haven’t been so lucky and have been sued and their entire storefront shut down permanently. So doing it is always a risk. Doing it for free doesn’t make it legal, it just means you’re less likely to be targeted as you’re not making money off of that pattern. However, they could still come after you as you’re gaining followers which could lead to you gaining revenue from other patterns as a result.
