Double magic ring

Hi

I have a question : in which case do you use double magic rings, and in which case do you use simple magic rings ? What is the difference ?

I am testing a pattern where there is a double magic ring to make, and I realized I’m actually only making double magic rings since I started to crochet

Maybe you mean a magic ring and a slip knot?

I only use them if the pattern tells me to, only because im not really good at them

Double magic rings are more secure than regular magic rings so there’s less of a chance of it opening up

It is tighter, I like that option better but other than that I don’t think there is a difference.

Okay, thank you for your answers

I am not sure of the difference but I think I make both as I do 2 types of magic ring according to the yarn

Double magic ring is better for delicate yarns that break easier. Sometimes when doing a normal ring , your yarn rips from pulling it close. Most yarns are stong enough tho

hii, double magic rings are more secure than the standard mr! you can cut the tail close to the mr whereas the standard mr, if you cut close, there’s a chance of it coming undone.

i’ve seen people use the double mr for things like making individual rose petals. I think it’s mostly flat things that use the double mr.

amigurumi does not really need the double mr as the tail of the mr should be hidden inside anyways so there’d be no chance of it coming undone.

So basically the double magic ring is more sturdy/ secure… you can use either, no matter what the pattern says, but I always use the double

I use the double magic ring when using plush/chenille style yarn, as I have trouble closing it with the single without stripping the fibres. Otherwise I just do a normal one and carry the tail through the first 2 rows to make sure it’s secure.
