Double stranding?

Hello Ribblrariansssssssssss!
SO um im free handing one of those multicoloured amigurumi long neck giraffe thinga majingys (sorry if this ain’t makin sense im just like that :face_with_tongue:) and i just finished the white part on the face and now ive switched to the coloured part and ive run into an ISSUE

reference photo bc you prolly need it

So im using the Lion Brand Mandala cakes in the colour gnome and the yarn is literally TOO SMALL :sob::sob::sob::sob::sob::sob:

Anyway I was smart enough to figure out that
a) one strand of Lion brand = half of my other colour
therefore
b) two strands of lion brand = one strand of the other colour and the RIGHT SIZE

And now for the main part of this post: Does anyone know any ways to double strand yarn?

  1. I can’t use both ends of the yarn (centre and outside) bc theyre different colours
  2. I can’t go out and buy another cake bc I don’t know where to buy them and the weekend is over
  3. triple stranding it is too big
  4. and single stranding is is obv too small and warps the crochet and makes it take wayyyyy too long

SO PLEASE HELP ME IM STUCK

note: sorry for the horrible spelling, grammar, punctuation, and nonsensical phrases but ty for readingggg! <3 ilysm

So… this is triple stranding but I’ve used the technique before and it works pretty well (I have never done it on amigurumi though but I think it would still work fine)

(There are a lot of tuts for this same thing btw)
I tried to find double but I think triple is the only way to do it without the two ends sorry, the size doesn’t quite work but I can keep looking

You could separate your skein to make two!

I’ve seen that before! It is triple stranding but I’m going to see if I can modify it or work it out for double stranding

How do you mean?

Pull out half of the yarn so then you have two things of yarn.

Sorry, do you mean like cut the skein in half/pull out half of the yarn and cut it there? If so I can’t do that because there are a total of 10 colour changes throughout the cake

I think she means that if the skein is 2, 4, 6 ect. ply, then you can separate the plys in half to create 2 different strands of yarn and continue splitting until you reach the other end of the yarn. Then you can hold them double! Or at least I think that’s what she means:sweat_smile: Gl!!!
