Be reliable and provide good feedback! Post feedback in the chat, not the journal, and be patient with the author! Don’t ignore messages and always be kind and respectful

Thank you so much! One question: were can I find the chat or does the author have to open it first?

The author ahould open it! If they don’t anytime soon, send them a pm to figure it out!

Don’t wait till the last minute to do it. Communicate daily.

It is helpful to point out grammatical errors in the group chat feedback. Question areas in the pattern that may sound confusing to you because maybe there is is a better way to phrase it. Make the pattern as close to exactly how the pattern is written. If you want to put your own spin on the pattern, ask the pattern designer first. Did you have a different user name before because looks like you joined about a month ago. FYI you have a very good chance of being accepted to any of my tests since I usually accept everyone that applies

I actually did joined for the first time a month ago but I applied via other websites for various patterns now I can see that that probably wasn’t the best way to apply, I will definately apply for your testercalls!^^

Ah! And by the way, we may share the same name  If you follow me or my shop, you will get notified of tester calls. Otherwise, just keep watching the testing zone!

congrats on getting accepted to your first tester call!:tada:

as a pattern designer, this is typically what i look for in a tester, so hopefully this helps and gives some guidance! it might overlap with what others have said as well, but just wanted to give my opinion

what i look for in a tester:

  • can complete the test on or before the due date
  • gives good feedback (sometimes testers say they had no issues, which is great! but i do really appreciate any detailed feedback on issues testers did face, if applicable)
  • takes a quality photo of the final result and posts a positive public journal review (i always make tester appreciation posts, so i really like getting photos from my testers!)
  • all feedback goes into the group chat, not the journal (the journal is public and what potential pattern buyers will see. since the pattern is in testing, it’s important to keep any constructive criticism to the group chat, as it can still be fixed before publishing! it would not be great for the designer if there were a negative journal review with something that was fixed before publishing)
  • communicates regularly (i don’t expect daily check-ins, and i usually only check up within a few days of my pattern test being due. but it’s always nice to hear that people are working through it, even if they have no issues)
  • doesn’t ghost/abort without saying something (life happens, so it’s totally fine with me if someone lets me know they can no longer test! but if someone does not respond to my messages after they’re accepted, or if they stop responding, or if they randomly abort the pattern, i do end up blocking them)
  • follows all instructions in the tester call (i often put in detailed instructions in my tester call to comment yarn/hook size/etc., as well as a random thing — usually putting an emoji — so i know that they read through all of the instructions before applying. if i don’t see that criteria in their reply, they get rejected! this is only because i feel like if they do not follow the instructions in the tester call, i don’t think they will have a detailed eye for spotting mistakes within the pattern)
  • honesty! this extends not only to letting me know if they can’t test anymore, but also if there are any issues with my pattern. i often write a pattern and, since i made it, find the instructions clear! but i love when testers point out that a phrase i used may be confusing to beginners. in my most recent test, i was suggested to add in photos to help beginners, which i hadn’t even thought of! it’s advice like that that really is helpful when designing a pattern

and that’s all i can think of right now! feel free to ask any questions about anything i said, and good luck with your first test! i’m sure you’ll do great!
